Accounting Technician – Accounts Payable – #17.13

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs general accounting, cash management, and accounts payable and receivable tasks.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Under the general supervision of the Controller:

  • Enters financial data, and prepares and processes checks to pay obligations of GDPM in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Monitors and balances contractual accounts, and prepares accurate and up-to-date reports to show account status and funding levels.
  • Processes grant and subsidy disbursements and assures that appropriate funding levels are maintained in relevant accounts.
  • Monitors and tracks usage of GDPM vehicles, and prepares and processes payments for routine maintenance of GDPM vehicles.
  • Makes check and cash deposits at local banks.
  • Performs accurate accounting and posting of cash receipts.
  • Process petty cash reimbursement requests.
  • Performs other tasks as directed by the Controller.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Typical office environment, with minimal exposure to excessive noise or adverse environmental issues.

  • Wearing suitable work clothes as determined by the supervisor/manager and as described in the GDPM Employee Handbook.
  • Performing all tasks safely as directed by his/her supervisor/manager.
  • Reporting all injuries, no matter how slight, to his/her supervisor/manager immediately and seeking treatment promptly.
  • Knowing the location of first aid kits, firefighting equipment and safety devices.
  • Attending any and all required safety and health meetings/training as directed by his/her supervisor/manager.
  • Not performing potentially hazardous tasks, or using any hazardous material, until properly trained and following all safety procedures for those tasks.
  • Stopping and asking questions if ever in doubt about the safety of any operation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

The incumbent must:

  • Have a minimum of a high school diploma or GED and one to three years of related experience.
  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial accounting software.
  • Be able to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Be able to meet the following physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel, and control items or equipment;
  • Talk and hear;
  • See and be able to read, write, and interpret text and spreadsheet documents;
  • Occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 15 pounds.
