Accounting Manager – Multi-Family Real Estate

The Hallmark Companies, Inc. (“Hallmark”) is an Atlanta-based real estate services company that consists of several wholly owned subsidiary companies that focus on acquisition, property management, and development/preservation of multi-family housing. Hallmark and its affiliated companies own and manage over 255 multi-family properties throughout the Southeastern United States. We are currently seeking an Accounting Manager to join our team. This position will be based out of our Atlanta office. The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing the Accounting activities of the Property Accounting team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the day to day activities of the Property Accounting department including financial reporting and analysis, cash management, and compliance by government regulatory agencies.
  • Responsible for reviewing the monthly/quarterly financial statements in accordance with modified GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) for assigned properties, including tax credit, HUD, development, and 3rd party entities.
  • Assist the Director of Accounting with special transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing of properties.
  • Communicate and coordinate accounting policies, practices and procedures within the property accounting department.
  • Assist the operations team with the annual budget process for approximately 250 entities.
  • Implement internal control procedures to assist with reducing opportunities for fraud while streamlining processes, reducing inefficiencies and integrating best practices.
  • Review supporting documentation including bank reconciliations, debt service statements, management fee calculations, compliance and detailed balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly/quarterly basis.
  • Responsible for training, managing, mentoring, and developing a staff of six Accountants.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with external CPA firms for approximately 250 RD/HUD audits on an annual basis.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is required; MBA/CPA a plus.
  • 7-10 years of combined accounting and real estate experience.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years of experience as a manager/supervisor.
  • Property Management experience in the Affordable/Rural Development space is preferred.
  • Great Plains and One-Site experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP is required.
