The Associate Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of entry-level accounting duties, such as providing financial information to departments by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing financial reports.

The Staff Accountant is responsible for performing a variety of professional-level accounting functions and creating management and financial reports for internal and external use. The Staff Accountant records various financial transactions and events in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains financial information and reviews financial transactions by creating and/or monitoring electronic files and/or accounting documents.
  • Analyzes and interprets accounting transactions and identifies discrepancies.
  • Prepares special financial reports by compiling financial data and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Assists departments and other customers by providing procedural/financial information and/or other information and guidance with automated or manual systems.
  • Maintains accounting controls and financial security by following policies and procedures and internal controls.
  • Assists with various administrative functions or special projects as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

DECISION MAKING

This position receives general supervision.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related field including 12 semester hours in accounting from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.

JOB DIMENSIONS

  • Knowledge of financial accounting and reporting concepts.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Skill in use of spreadsheets and word processing software.
  • Skill in operating a calculator.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, banking personnel, vendors, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • May be required to work hours other than regular schedule such as nights and weekends.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Subject to sitting for long periods of time to perform job scope. Requires visual acuity, speech and hearing. Working conditions are in an office environment.
