Position Description

Position Title: Accountant I

Location: Central Office (Linton Middle School)

Reports To: Business Manager

Salary: $50,000

Applicants will continue to be screened on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business management, or other related field with valid CPA credential preferred
  • Three (3) years or more experience in accounting and/or auditing department or firm

Required Technical Skills:

  • Exceptional computation skills
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and GASB compliance guidelines and employment history of having consistently adhered to all related guidelines
  • Familiarity with Excel and ProSoft (accounting software) with the ability to generate reports
  • Strong research skills with ability to analyze trends and generate forecasts
  • Ability to book accrual journal entries and complete reconciliations

  • Exceptional communication (oral and written), including strong attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in an environment with frequent interruptions
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks having similar deadlines

Other Qualifications:

  • Clearances – Current PA Child Abuse (Act 151), FBI Fingerprint (Act 114) and Criminal Record (Act 34) as required
  • Written medical clearance by licensed professional that attests to employee’s ability to complete the job
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Goals:

To verify the accurate maintenance of the District’s financial records

  • To support Business Manager efforts by scrutinizing transactions and verifying compliance with related contracts and Board resolutions
  • To monitor spending and ensure budgets are not overspent and to review requests for budget transfers
  • To lead internal audits and help facilitate external audits of District’s financial operations
  • To oversee financial reporting for the Food Service Fund, Federal Programs, and Student Activity Fund

Essential Duties and Responsibility:

  • Help maintain Penn Hills School District financial records and accounts, including general fund, cafeteria fund, and student activities
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations of all accounts
  • Generate and organize records to support completion of AFR and annual independent audit
  • Maintain federal programs financial reporting (quarterlies and FER) and food service records and submissions (PEARS)
  • Review monthly charter school invoices and verify eligibility of charter school to claim each student listed
  • And other duties as assigned

Anticipated work shift: 8:30am-4:30pm
