Accountant

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance & Administration, the incumbent provides a wide range of financial analysis, and operational duties. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to collaborating with the Assistant Director in Core annual budget preparation; review and approval Management Unit account reconciliations; review salary allocations based on established budgets; prepare monthly Management Unit (to be assigned) analysis to highlight budget performance and funding issues; account analysis, variance analysis and budget analysis; budget entry; monthly reporting of results to senior management; follow up on highlighted issues; manage monthly, quarterly and annual closing process; conduct general ledger management and maintenance; prepare and enter journal entries; prepare cash deposits; instruct program staff and others with financial responsibility on CU systems and accounting principles; responsible for annual budget preparation primarily in Core administration and education units; research financial issues as assigned.. All other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Finance & Administration.

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent required. Minimum of two(2) years of related experience required.

Computer skills, including excellent skills in EXCEL, Microsoft Office knowledge preferred.

Previous financial/budget experience highly preferred.

Essential Functions

Primary responsibilities include conducting account and budget variance analysis, budget analysis, budget entry and financial tracking, overseeing review and approval of Management Unit account reconciliations; prepare salary allocations based on established budgets; prepare monthly Management Unit (to be assigned) analysis to highlight budget performance and funding issues; coordinate the monthly reporting of results to senior management; follow up on highlighted issues; assist with monthly, quarterly and annual closing process; conduct general ledger management and maintenance; prepare and enter journal entries; prepare cash deposits. Assist in annual budget preparation primarily in Research Units, research financial issues as assigned. 70%

Provide financial guidance and expertise to program staff and others with financial responsibility in CU systems and accounting principles, coordinates in budget preparation and financial tracking; performing various analyses as assigned; research financial issues and data as assigned and manage follow up communications. 20%

All other duties as assigned. 10%
