2018 Front of House Management Internship – Chicago

Job Summary:

The successful Front of the House Management Intern helps greet guests warmly, delivers hospitable guest service, serves food and beverage items in a safe and responsible manner, and is knowledgeable about the vessel and the skyline.


Essential Functions:


Management

  • Provide exceptional hospitality to guests and coworkers as prescribed in Our Service System (OSS)
  • Assist in the overall operation of the food and beverage components of the vessel
  • Attain and maintain the ability to perform the duties of a server assistant, server, bartender, and host/hostess up to more complex duties of staff in higher levels
  • Provide reporting to management as required
  • Participate in special projects as requested
  • Participate in department or other meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Front-of-the-House

  • Provide guests with water, coffee/tea, and bread service throughout the meal
  • Scrape and stack dirty dishes, and carry dishes and other tableware to the galley for cleaning
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of all common areas and service stations
  • Accurately follow recipes for all beverages; must have thorough knowledge of all beverage offerings and prices
  • Provide prompt and consistent bar service to guests and servers throughout the cruise
  • Set up and break down bar – stock and restock bar according to prescribed par specifications; clean bar thoroughly in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Escort guests to the buffet line, ensure that the buffet is well stocked and clean for every guest.
  • Speak with patrons to ensure satisfaction with food and service, and to respond to complaints
  • Maintain contact with kitchen staff, manager or supervisor, serving staff, and guests to ensure that dining details are handled properly and guests’ concerns are addressed.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Be prepared to begin work at scheduled time
  • Maintain uniform and personal grooming in compliance with appearance standards
  • Assist with the warm and efficient greeting and seating of guests when they arrive
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager or supervisor on duty
  • Participate in special projects as requested
  • Participate in department or other meetings

The successful Front of the House Management Intern will personally contribute to the unforgettable guest experience, be favorably viewed by supervisors and peers, and be swift and efficient in the execution of their assigned duties. Performance will be measured by quality, service, departmental tests, management evaluation, and feedback from peers on the city’s team.


Job Specifications / qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate) required
  • Must be pursuing an associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree in hospitality or a related field
  • Energetic and enthusiastic personality essential
  • Must be able to effectively understand and convey written and verbal information to guests and coworkers
  • Must possess a service orientation – actively looking for ways to help others
  • Will work for extended periods of time without sitting
  • Required to lift heavy items such as liquor boxes and ice bins up and down stairs
  • Responsible for bar till; proper cash handling is required
  • Basic computer skills are required
  • Will be required to be available for work on all major holidays
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Per US Coast Guard requirement, must be a US Citizen or a Permanent Resident
