Youth Jobs Program Coordinator/Counselor (YJP)

THE PO SI TI ON : Under the direction and supervision of the Finance Director, the YJP Coordinator will be accountable for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of assigned temporary Youth workers, in compliance with the Work Force Investment Board (WIB) guidelines.

TYPICAL DUTIES: Serve as liaison between the City and WIB and help ensure compliance and reporting with regulations and funding; prepare budget and reports, maintain written records, files and other correspondence; attend meetings; and prepare requisitions for necessary supplies and inventory as needed by program activities. The YJP Coordinator will be responsible for the recruitment, scheduling, training, and monitoring of hours and time sheets for youth workers. Perform other related duties as assigned. May be required to work weekends and nights and travel between multiple sites within the area if needed.

Qualification Guidelines : High School diploma or its equivalent; an Associate degree is highly preferred. Two (2)years of customer service and administrative experience, preferably with a social service agency and/or youth employment program. Prior experience working with youth from a culturally diverse and social economic background is highly desirable. Successful candidates must have knowledge of principles and practices of excellent customer service, telephone and in-person etiquette; Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint; objectives, methods and techniques of the Youth Employment Jobs Programs and WIB policies and regulations. Flexible and energetic team player and self-starter who can maintain composure in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding work environment; comfortable establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of audiences. Candidates must display outstanding leadership, customer service and communication skills, both orally and in writing; detail oriented, accurate, organized and able to maintain confidential information with discretion. Spanish speaking is preferred A valid State of California Class C Driver’s License is required. A CPR and First Aid certification is also required and may be obtained through the City once employment is offered.
