Workforce Education Coordinator (2 Positions are available)

The Workforce Education Coordinator performs a variety of duties to ultimately ensure that eligible students are authorized to receive financial assistance from the Basic Food Employment and Training (BFET), Worker Retraining, WorkFirst and Opportunity Grants. The position works directly with students to counsel them on how Workforce funding impacts academic and career plans, how to become eligible for funding, how to remain in good standing for future funding and how to navigate other college functions and services. Finally, the Coordinator collects, prepares and reports data needed to maintain or enhance students’ eligibility for funding.

The Coordinator works with state and community partners including SBCTC, Employment Security, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act programs, other government agencies, community-based organizations and employers. An essential requirement of this position is the ability to communicate well with students with limited English proficiency and an appreciation of the value of diversity in the workforce. This position will work collaboratively with staff from the Transitional Studies & Wellness (TSW) Division, the faculty from various Professional/Technical programs, Master Achiever Center, and other campus staff. This position reports to the Director of Workforce Education.

Position Responsibilities:

Student Support:

  • Participate in outreach strategies (workshops, information sessions and individual student appointments) to attract and serve eligible students
  • Guide students through the process of becoming eligible for funding–applying for funding, submitting required documentation and complying with guidelines
  • Counsel students on the ways that Workforce funding impacts career and academic options so students are prepared for academic advising (provided by the Career and Advising Center)
  • Prepare students for the various processes of applying to and enrolling at the college including taking placement assessments, attending a New Student Advising session, applying for Federal Financial Aid and other steps
  • Help students remain eligible for funding by re-assessing their status each quarter and assisting with barriers
  • Listen actively, assess needs and link students to appropriate resources; develop processes to follow-up with students
  • Establish and preserve a working relationship with Continuing & Community Education staff and faculty
  • Collaborate with Master Achiever Center around I-BEST funding procedures

P rogram Coordination and Support

  • Collect, prepare, and report the data necessary to maintain or enhance each student’s eligibility for funding; this data may include academic intent, coursework, number of credits, academic standing, participation and attendance and other information
  • Transmit information in a timely manner to internal and external partners as required
  • Support Workforce partners by attending regular meetings and functions including Local Planning Area (LPA) meetings, Basic Food Employment & Training (BFET) meetings, Security Module One meetings, Rapid Response events and others.
  • Perform related duties as required

Community and Campus Outreach

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, potential students, campus partners and community partners
  • Assist in developing marketing materials
  • Promote all Workforce Education programs to faculty and staff
  • Coordinate outreach strategies with campus and community partnerships
  • Represent the college at meetings and events as needed
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, organizational leadership, business, human services, social work or related field; and
  • Two years of experience related to recruitment and enrollment, educational planning, support service, workplace readiness, job placement, occupational training.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and electronic databases
  • Demonstrated insight into effective marketing techniques; ability to effectively coordinate publicity and promotional materials to educate and inform
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and coordinate effective programs
  • Contribute to the College’s commitment to diversity by fostering a climate of multicultural understanding and appreciation
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively, strategically and effectively
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with delivering presentations to diverse groups, such as students and community partners
  • High degree of problem solving abilities in employment training
  • Demonstrated ability to actively listen and assess needs
  • Demonstrated successful verbal and written communication skills with all levels of professional, technical and administrative staff in a team effort
  • Demonstrated ability to consult with students and community partners
  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission, values and goals of Green River and the Workforce Education Department’s objectives

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Work experience in higher education
  • Fluent in a second language
  • Knowledge of or experience working with BFET, Worker Retraining, OG and Workfirst
  • Knowledge of or experience working with students who are I-BEST or veterans
  • A clear understanding and appreciation of the training and educational opportunities, services and resources available through the community college system
  • Awareness of the complex needs of a diverse student population
