Website Application/Developer

The Web developer is an expert in using the dynamic programming tools and languages that fuel the Web. The Web developer might work independently or be part of a team that builds and integrates interactive Web sites, applications, and services for both internal and public sites. The role is to “make it work,” which means developing Web applications and testing them on various browsers, enhancing and modifying them as necessary to ensure the best experience for the user. A web developer might also architect websites, design data-driven applications, and find efficient client-server solutions. An in-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle and be able to communicate project status, issues, and resolutions is essential to success in this position.

Job Description

· Works closely with Project Managers and other members of the Development Team to both develop detailed specification documents with clear project deliverables and timelines, and to ensure timely completion of deliverables

· Produces project estimates during sales process, including expertise required, total number of people required, total number of development hours required, etc.

· Attends client meetings during the sales process and during development

· Works with clients and Project Managers to build and refine graphic designs for websites. Must have strong skills in Photoshop, Fireworks, or equivalent application(s).

· Converts raw images and layouts from a graphic designer into CSS/XHTML themes

· Determines appropriate architecture, and other technical solutions, and make relevant recommendations to clients

· Communicates to the Project Manager with efficiency and accuracy any progress and/or delays

· Engages in outside-the-box thinking to provide high value-of-service to clients

· Alerts colleagues to emerging technologies or applications and the opportunities to integrate them into operations and activities

· Is involved in and contributes regularly to the development community of the selected CMS

· Develops innovative, reusable Web-based tools for activism and community building

· Builds and maintains the technology aspects of a variety of digital media projects (including but not limited to websites, micro-sites, online promotions/contests, online events, admin interfaces/systems). Maintains and supports all applications and Digital Media projects built

· Easily recognizes system deficiencies and implements solutions

· Effectively manages client expectations

· Communicates and enforces coding standards and best practices

· Reviews team deliverables to ensure high levels of standards compliance and quality are maintained

· Maintains and documents applications written

· Maintains, creates, and backs up site databases

· Provides programming, analysis and coordination efforts for software development and maintenance related to web sites, applications and Interactive projects

· Adheres and contributes to departmental coding, documentation, and best practice development standards documenting

· Scopes out all technology aspects of all projects assigned; ensures all technology aspects are delivered on-time, on-target and on-budget with a focus on strong documentation and clean code; and efficiently uses bandwidth/resources

· Assists in developing and oversee process of promoting application code to production environments

· Recommends and implements strategies when faced with new development challenges

· Troubleshoots and repair bugs or application deficiencies as required

· Works with Manager to establish a unified code-base/platform for application integration and roll-out

· Provides technical consultation to peers (non-technical such as Website Producers) to illustrate options/opportunities/imitations with technology

· Maintains and updates web sites

· Ensures consistency, accurately and compliance with required standards

· Proofreads copies; maintains internal posting of policies, forms, and related data as provided

· Provides technical consultation to staff and customers

· Researches new technology and trends

· Troubleshoots, tests, and analyzes complex computer and system problems and determines a solution

· Contact vendors to research products and resolve technical problems

· Make recommendations to department for software and equipment purchases

Education Requirements, Work Experience, and Qualifications

· BS in computer science or a related field, or significant equivalent experience

· 3 years minimum experience with HTML/XHTML and CSS

· 2 years minimum Web programming experience, including PHP, ASP or JSP

· 1 year minimum experience working with relational database systems such as MySQL, MSSQL or Oracle and a good working knowledge of SQL

· Development experience using extensible web authoring tools

· Experience developing and implementing open source software projects

· Self-starter with strong self-management skills

· Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities

Physical Requirements:

This position primarily consists of working indoors in an office environment. In the course of the employees duties he/she may travel to customer sites to perform essential job duties. Essential functions: The employee may be required to: sit, walk, or stand for extended periods, talk and hear with the ability to communicate, detect, converse with, discern, convey, express oneself, exchange information, to use the hands and fingers to operate, activate, use, prepare, inspect, place, or position, and see to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, and assess.

Travel may be required based on business goals and objectives.

Non-Disclosure Agreement:

This policy is stated in the Employee Handbook, which will be supplied during the first month of employment. All employees of Webhead will be required to sign and adhere to this agreement.

Schedule Requirements

This position shall require the employee to be available and ready to work between the hours of 6:30 AM and 5:30 PM. The actual work schedule shall be determined and coordinated with management of Webhead and its client.
