Web Developer

The mission of the Office of the Secretary of State is to help commerce thrive, promote democracy, and to record history for future generations.

This position is a Web Developer for the Montana Secretary of State (SOS). This position is responsible for designing, developing, and managing all internal and external SOS websites with the goals of creating leading-edge, visually appealing, and highly usable sites; providing the best possible web experience; promoting the SOS brand; informing and educating customers and SOS staff; and enabling customers to conduct business with SOS.

Facilitate web site design with the Communications Director and other internal customers; gather feedback from customers and other technical staff on web site development needs; and facilitate web site project planning with internal customers and SOS management. Create prototypes and functional specifications for web site projects; determine new web technologies to utilize, such as browsers, languages, and plug-ins, based on SOS needs; and author complex web pages in HTML, XHTML, JavaScript and CSS. Meet with other technical staff on specifics of SOS web projects, new technologies, and deadlines; conceptualize long-term needs of web development, and plan and manage related projects; make recommendations to IT Manager on web-based technical standards for specific web sites and the agency as a whole. Work with internal and external customers to update information on website to be current, easy to find, and accurate. Work with internal and external customers and SOS management to facilitate new ideas and projects. Monitor, analyze, and report web analytics for all SOS divisions.

Create print/web graphic products for internal and public information and websites using a variety of application tools.

Build and send email campaigns to inform the public of upcoming deadlines and events.

Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and public user support for agency web sites.

Create and maintain agency forms.

Education

Computer Science related Bachelor’s Degree

with 3 to 4 years experience in web development

Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case by case basis.
