The Division of Continuing Studies (DoCS) is the central continuing education unit at Rutgers University. DoCS is a University-wide division at Rutgers University that includes over 125 employees in 14 distinct units at over a dozen locations, that coordinate hundreds of credit and non-credit programs, enrolling thousands of participants, reaching audiences from youth to retirees and providing various support services across the University. Our educational services include a range of services that rely on state-of-the art technologies.

Information Technology at Continuing Studies, a unit of the Division of Continuing Studies, provides comprehensive IT solutions for University Continuing Studies units and University Academic departments.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Web Developer to report to the Project Manager at the Office of Information Technology at Continuing Studies (ITaCS). This position will work as a collaborative member of the Application Development Team ( ADT ) within ITaCS and with all other technical teams within the Division of Continuing Studies ( DOCS ). Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Contributes to the maintenance, testing, coding, implementation, deployment and the development of websites, custom online and mobile applications.
  • Assists in and provide technical advice to the ADT lead on web projects.
  • Works on projects to enhance website user experience, application architecture, website design, website prototyping, site layout/user interface, using a combination of HTML /HTML5, CSS /CSS3, XML , JSON , JavaScript, Swift, Java, Objective-C, PHP and various developer tools.
  • Documents and versions all work using the version software GIT .
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the ITaCS and the COHLIT development team to support user needs around custom applications built to streamline online learning initiatives, course registration and faculty course assignment.
  • Provides advice on content created, develop and deploy web hosting servers, maintain servers to ensure a healthy web infrastructure.
  • Assist in the deployment and configuration of new CMS servers, DNS settings, and mobile application deployments and updates/grades. Develops new and enhance existing websites using the Symphony framework, Bootstrap 3 framework, Drupal 7 or 8 CMS Platforms along with other industry standard web platforms.
  • Contributes to the direction of the Division of Continuing Studies web presence and for ITaCS internal departments.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in computer science/information technology or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general principles and practices.
  • Also requires a minimum of two years of programming experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current programming languages and methodologies.
  • Must be able to collaborate and communicate effectively with all levels of university faculty, staff, and administration
  • Ability to work within a Linux environment is required.
  • Knowledge of mobile development on the iOS and Android platform.
  • Requires strong and demonstrated knowledge of HTML /HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, JSON , CSS /CSS3, Drupal 7/8, Swift, Java, Objective-C, PHP languages and of Drupal 7/8 CMS and Symphony framework.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years minimum or more web programming experience, including Drupal 7/8 , HTML /HTML5/ XHTML , CSS , PHP , XML , Javascript, JQuery, Java, Objective-C or JSP .
  • High comfort level in working with the Linux environment.
  • XML , JSON , Laravel, Symphony framework, Bootstrap 3, GIT experience.
