This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Analyst Programmer, competency level 2 (Web Developer) position for the Extension and Experiment Station Communications ( EESC ) unit at Oregon State University.

EESC supports the strategic communication needs of the statewide OSU Extension Service and the Oregon Agricultural Experiment Station ( AES ). EESC collaborates with Extension and AES faculty and staff on projects that range from multimedia educational design and publishing to technology adoption, news and media relations, impact reporting, marketing, and accountability efforts.

The Web Developer’s role is to collaboratively design, develop, test, and maintain web and content management systems that increase the public’s access to and engagement with educational resources and information from the OSU Extension Service and AES . This position is part of EESC’s Web and Content Strategy team.

Position Duties

70% – Web Development and Programming:

Collaboratively design, develop, test, and maintain web and content management systems that increase the public’s access to and engagement with educational resources and information from the OSU Extension Service and Agricultural Experiment Station.

Maintain and deploy Drupal codebases to Acquia Cloud.

Develop Drupal websites, which includes creating and modifying views; custom module development (hooks and overrides); researching, installing, and testing contributed modules; and creating views and themes.

Document processes and procedures used for design, development, and maintenance of EESC -managed web, content management, and information access systems.

Collaborate and coordinate projects and activities with the Extension Computing Technology Unit, College of Agricultural Sciences Web team, OSU Drupal community, and OSU information technologists, as needed.

Follow industry best practices, coding standards, and responsive design techniques with an emphasis on usability and accessibility.

Organize and execute multiple projects/tasks; re-prioritize when new issues arise, to ensure a timely response.

10% – Research and Assessment:

Troubleshoot content management systems and web applications to resolve issues and diagnose technical problems that affect the work of EESC colleagues, OSU Extension and AES partners, and end users.

Identify emerging methods, technologies, and programming resources that enhance project features and streamline product development and delivery.

Research and suggest improvements in areas such as search engine optimization, content strategy, accessibility standards, social media integration, and third-party application programming interfaces ( API ).

10% – Professional Development and Service:

Attend professional workshops and meetings to improve skills, expand knowledge, remain current with changing technology, and network with others in the profession.

Participate as a member of EESC teams, and as determined by the Web and Content Strategy Team leader or EESC director.

Provide service to OSU and the land grant system by working on unit, division, university, regional, or national committees and projects.

5% – Lead Work:

May provide oversight of 1-2 student workers. Assign work and follow up to ensure assignments are completed on time.

5% – Other duties/projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

This classification requires a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in systems analysis and related programming support functions generally obtained by a bachelor’s degree in computer science, or an equivalent amount of training and applied experience.

Additional Required Qualifications

One or more years of experience developing websites using a content management system (such as Drupal).

Demonstrated understanding of web development best practices, including coding standards, accessibility and usability.

Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

Preferred (Special) Qualifications

Demonstrated experience with Drupal website development.

Experience with MySQL and relational databases.

Experience using CSS and JS libraries such as Bootstrap and jQuery.

Experience with version control systems (Git, GitHub).

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

Typical office environment; 8-5, M-F.

This position is deemed essential and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures.
