Web Developer

The Web Developer is responsible for a bulk of web services at the University related
to the JU Portal and internal web applications. This individual will update and maintain
the University’s intranet sites, applications and web parts using SharePoint 2013
& Visual Studio, taking direction and priorities from the Director of Information
Services. The Web Developer works independently to establish, support and maintain
web content hosted on JU servers such as the portal and other web enabled application
such as our ERP and Web Services.

Essential Job Duties

  • Create and maintain web pages for all administrative departments, staff offices and
    departments designated by the Director of Information Services
  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of SharePoint 2013 Portal pages and web
    parts
  • Support and maintain the University’s web content management software and the My.JU.edu
    Portal
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications department to ensure the various layers
    and templates with the Portal are consistent with the look and fell of the main JU’s
    web site
  • Develop appropriate web parts and procedures to allow faculty, staff and students
    to perform self-service updates to personal information while maintaining security
    logs and security procedures
  • Assists the University with evaluating and purchasing any web related device software
    that is needed
  • Develops custom code that integrates with various web applications on campus using
    SharePoint, HTML, C#, SQL and other application development tools
  • Work closely with DBA, System Analyst and Programmer Analyst in implementing Web API
    Services such as Ellucian Colleague, Argos and various data vendors
  • Works closely with the Network Administrators and Systems Security Analyst when managing
    the University’s web servers for various installations, upgrades and customizations
  • Assist in the overall policies, plans and practices of the Marketing and Communications
    Office
  • Maintain knowledge and skills associated with the rapidly changing web technology
  • Explore and propose new uses of web technology to the Director and web users

Prerequisites Required for Position

  • Current understanding of the principles, operation and maintenance of large, multi-user
    developed web site Portals (5,000+ users)
  • Microsoft SharePoint 2010, 2012 or 2013 design and management experience
  • Experience as a web developer responsible for a multi-page site using HTML, CSS sheets,
    SharePoint that integrates with C# or Java web parts
  • Windows 2008r2 or 2012 Server experience preferred
  • Proficiency in web page design and creation
  • Working knowledge of SFTP, SMTP, TCP/IP, DNS preferred
  • Ability to program interactive web pages, preferably using SharePoint 2013, Visual
    Studio, ASP, .NET and C#
  • Microsoft IIS and Apache experience a plus
  • Demonstrated understanding of .NET server platforms, database design and security
    issues
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills; must
    be highly skilled in customer service with end-users at all levels of proficiency
  • Ability to work independently; demonstrate good project management skills and ability
    to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks
  • Ability to respond to quickly changing priorities or new demands with flexibility,
    promptness and precision
  • Prior higher education experience preferred

Minimum Work Experience

  • 2-5 years of Web Development and management experience required

Desired Qualifications

  • Programming in other languages such as PHP is a plus
  • Good understanding on web service technologies like IIS, Apache, Tomcat, etc.
  • Experience with Ellucian (Datatel) ERP WebAdvisor is a plus
  • Collegenet R25 scheduling experience is a plus
  • Ability to recognize, troubleshoot and resolve situations or problems is a necessity
  • Responds with a sense of urgency to immediate needs
  • Understands directives and requirements of projects
  • Detailed oriented with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Maintains communication with the team concerning projects
  • Ability to clearly outline and define concerns and solutions
  • Accepts, adapts to change as directed
  • Customer Service experience
