Web Database Applications Developer

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Web/Database Applications Developer at the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine (SCNM) is responsible for designing, developing and implementing web based applications, maintaining existing enterprise systems, and assisting in the production of management reporting. This position will provide backup support to the IT department in general and specifically will support web development in marketing and across the campus.

SUPERVISES:

May provide work direction to student workers, and interns

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze, design, build, document, debug and maintain institutional web applications, web-related databases, and legacy applications in a variety of environments
  • Develop and implement external access to and from database systems using web based application programming interfaces (API)
  • Provide support and assists staff in handling difficult or advanced technical challenges
  • Confer with vendors to diagnose and resolve issues
  • Integrate and automate links within data repositories to streamline reporting processes and workflows
  • Support the creation of custom reports, forms, web pages and ad-hoc queries
  • Assist in the development of documentation and training for users
  • Ensure appropriate user security to protect data resources
  • Ensure all work performed complies with HIPAA, FERPA, Section 508 and other regulatory guidelines
  • Perform related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and use of open source and Microsoft development practices and/or experience developing web applications using open source and Microsoft tools and best practices
  • Familiarly with portal development in the Jenzabar Internet Campus Solution (JICS) framework
  • Exposure to SalesForce, Jenzabar EX, and Microsoft PowerShell
  • Proficiency in other web scripting languages such as PHP, Java Server Pages, Ruby, Python, or Perl
  • An understanding of web standards and compliance
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a constant desire to learn something new
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to coordinate resources necessary to complete an assignment and/or resolve problems
  • Ability to interpret functional design specifications and create technical design specifications
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in identifying and troubleshooting problems
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in dealing with multiple and diverse stakeholders, including administrators, faculty, staff, and students

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: · Education and Experience: o A bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer programing, software development, or related field OR at least 5 years of software development experience; Education/Experience equivalents will be considered · Preferred Experience:

  • 3+ years experience with:
  • Front-end development including: HTML5, XML, CSS3, SASS, JavaScript, jQuery, and AJAX
  • Back-end development including: Classic ASP (VB Script), ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, .NET 4.5 framework, and C# development
  • Database development including: T-SQL (DML, DDL, DCL, and TCL), SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server Integration Services in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 and above
  • Experience using Visual Studio 2008 and above
  • Authentication systems and frameworks including SAML 2.0, LDAP, and ADFS
  • Web 2.0 APIs and external systems integration * Experience with the following types of projects:
  • Creating HTML Emails
  • Building data warehouses using Microsoft tools
  • Single Sign On (SSO) development, for example integrating Google Apps for Education or iTunesU with Microsoft Active Directory
  • Salesforce development
  • Open source portal development
  • Enterprise systems integration

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • May be required to work on call, nights and weekends
