Wastewater Support Specialist – West Point Treatment Plant

WHO MAY APPLY: This position is open to all qualified applicants, First priority will be given to S.E.I.U. Wastewater Local 925 internal candidates. Transfer candidates will be considered based on seniority.

Please Note: This position is currently located at the West Point Wastewater Treatment Plant but may be assigned to work at any Wastewater Treatment Plant. This recruitment may be used to fill current and future openings which occur over the next 6 months.

WORK SCHEDULE : The treatment plants are operated 24/7. This position is currently assigned to working a 4 x 10 schedule, work hours of 6:00 am – 4:30 pm. Applicants must be available to work any and all assigned shift schedules. This position is overtime eligible

JOB SUMMARY: The responsibilities of this classification include performing fully proficient and advanced level technical and administrative functions to support the administrative, maintenance and financial reporting systems that support a wastewater treatment plant and conveyance systems.

Job Duties:
Enter asset and maintenance data into database as provided by Maintenance/Planner Scheduler (e.g., work orders, asset numbers, asset descriptions) ensuring accuracy through review of paper documentation and audit of retained data.

Follow established policies and procedures for payroll and time and labor transactions (e.g., review paper time reports, enter data, file transfer to central payroll system) ensuring accuracy through review of paper documentation and audit of retained data. Resolve and/or identify payroll and other accounting related problems by researching and answering questions or referring problems to other staff.

Develop, prepare, maintain and track operational and administrative information such as mandated operations reports, permits, newsletters, presentation materials, organizational charts, expense reports, directories.

Prepare and process various accounting transactions including expense/travel reimbursements, tuition reimbursement, invoice payments, petty cash, and requisitions.

Create relational databases, directories, and track and maintain data for personal computer based applications;

Research and compile data for information requests including preparing spreadsheets and/or custom reports.

Maintain human resources and plant operations information including personnel files, employee emergency contact information and stand-by lists, and process related transactions.

Maintain and administer all portable communications equipment and motor pool vehicles assigned to the plant, including record-keeping and vendor agreements.

Perform general administrative support as assigned including answering phones, maintaining calendars, screening mail, preparing correspondence and other documents for management’s signature, purchasing supplies, archiving, for plant and associated facilities.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:
Working knowledge and experience in the application of general office principles and techniques

Knowledge and experience in the application of specific software applications such as Peoplesoft (payroll and personnel database) Mainsaver (asset management database) Microsoft office products, and relational databases

Knowledge and experience in processing payroll transactions including audit principles and techniques

Working knowledge and experience in research techniques and principles

Working knowledge and experience in basic accounting techniques and principles

Working knowledge and experience in customer service techniques and principles

Communication (oral and written) skills

Skill in working with and interacting with diverse groups of individuals

Skill in reviewing detailed information and processing transactions with mandatory deadlines

Skill in working on a number of assignments simultaneously

Skill in organizing and prioritizing work assignments

Skill in team problem solving and working in a team environment

Skill in making independent decisions on work assignments and processing payroll transactions

Skill in troubleshooting computer and software problems

LICENSING / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Washington State Driver’s License SELECTION PROCESS: Transfer candidates will be selected based on the CBA. Reviews of performance appraisals, personnel files, internal reference, BT / Vacation usage logs, etc. will also be conducted prior to any final job offer.
