Job Summary

Under the direction of the Bay Area Houston CVB Board of Directors the Visitor Center and Marketing Manager serves as the full time business and marketing manager for the Bay Area Houston Visitor Center. Duties include daily operations and the management of visitor center staff, in addition to serving as the liaison for partner cities and coordinator for marketing activities. This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of responsibilities and duties and the position may be required to perform other functions as directed by the BAHCVB Chair and Board of Directors.

Essential Job Functions

  • Regular and timely attendance
  • Directly hire and supervise Visitor Center staff and volunteers including training and shift scheduling
  • Provide assistance with and serve as backup to Visitor Center staff when needed (including weekends)
  • Compile and help disseminate information to assist and encourage visitors to Bay Area Houston
  • Coordinate the distribution of visitor guides and other promotional materials to area hotels, retailers, and restaurants
  • Coordinate the preparation of welcome packets for visitor groups, meetings and conferences scheduled at area hotels
  • Develop and administer guidelines in regards to the brochure racks and other promotional opportunities provided by the Bay Area Houston Visitor Center
  • Cooperate and assist in the development of projects designed to encourage and promote tourism within the Bay Area Houston region
  • Assist with the branding/marketing of the Bay Area through an integrated marketing communications approach, which will include strategic planning, implementation and the evaluation of an area wide branding process
  • Develop relationships with partner cities, area hotels, and event coordinators
  • Assist with writing and distributing press releases
  • Assist with media relations
  • Gather and develop content for publications, including photographs, graphic elements and stories
  • Proofread and edit advertisements and publications
  • Help maintain and update the BAHCVB website and social media networks
  • Produce monthly visitation reports
  • Facilitate a working relationship with state welcome centers and other local visitor centers
  • Attend BAHCVB Board meetings and take minutes
  • Manage special projects as requested
  • Resolve visitor complaints or problems
  • Display partner cities’ information in a neat and orderly manner and contact partner cities to provide additional materials when necessary
  • Communicate courteously and effectively with visitors, city officials, and area businesses
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Annual Salary

The Visitor Center and Marketing Manager is a full-time position at an annual salary between $40,000 to $55,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Qualifications

Be at least 18 years of age. Be able to provide proof of identity (2 forms). Be eligible to work in the United States. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and/or Experience

Required: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, marketing, tourism or related field plus two (2) or more years of professional experience in management or marketing field. If the education requirement is not met, consideration will be given based on experience.

Preferred: Professional work experience in tourism or related field. Experience in developing and implementing marketing programs, strategies, volunteer coordination, sales identify and developing collaborations and partnerships. Experience with a variety of communication tools including website, press releases, blogs, and social media.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of the tourism industry, promotions and marketing related tourism initiatives
  • Knowledge of Bay Area Houston including shops, restaurants, attractions, special events, key highlights related to tourists and visitors
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret business reports, journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from partner cities, staff, and the general public
  • Ability to operate a PC and/or Mac, scanner, copier, fax machine, digital camera, projector and various other standard office equipment
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions
  • Ability to effectively plan, monitor and complete tasks and assignments; ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Decision making and problem solving skills
  • Ability to create new initiatives, programs and partnerships through the community to promote these initiatives
  • Ability to create volunteer program and maintain effective relationships with volunteers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with BAHCVB Board of Directors and partner cities, city officials, staff, volunteers, visitors, tourists, and the general public
  • Strong personal and communication skills are essential
  • Ability to work independently, coordinate time and resources effectively within fiscal and time constraints
  • Ability to “sell” the Bay Area Houston to prospective visitors, tourists, and the general public.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Outside activities and events may occur in the heat of the day. While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to sit for long periods of time. This position is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. During events this position will be required to stand or walk for long periods of time. This position will be required to lift and/or carry equipment weighing 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
