UX Designer

We are looking for a UX Designer to spearhead the design process of our science visualization web products.

On the Animated Cell team, we produce tools and visualizations for scientists outside of the Allen Institute to interact with and understand our data, results, and methodologies.

The design process involves working with the scientists who produce the content, software engineers, our visual analysis development and communications team, and the end users. The ideal candidate will be good at interfacing across multiple groups and stakeholders, have experience in user testing, interaction design, and agile UX practices.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and evaluate user requirements in collaboration with scientists, the Animated Cell team, Communications and Software Engineering teams
  • Develop UI mockups and prototypes
  • Conduct user studies throughout the design and build process and help iteratively guide the project

Basic Requirements:

  • 4 years proven work experience as a UX/Product Designer or similar role
  • Experience with HTML/CSS/JavaScript
  • Bachelor degree, computer science, information management, or related discipline

Preferred Requirements:

  • Portfolio of design projects
  • Ability to work across many disciplines, strong communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders
  • Some cell biology knowledge
  • Masters in Information Science, Human centered design or similar field
