JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of an Upholstery / Mattress production center with prescribed time requirements and established costs of manufacturing.

JOB DUTIES:

– Supervises, teaches, and trains an inmate work force on various production processes and methods required in a Upholstery & Mattress shop

– Ensures safe operation of machinery

– Monitors and controls inventory levels and requisition of raw materials and supplies

– Maintains daily attendance, work assignments, bi-monthly inmate payroll, and monthly work evaluations

– Communicates with customers/vendors to ensure proper specifications and dimensions are compliant with policies

– Prepares reports and cost estimates as required by management

– Drives on state business

– Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

– Supervisory techniques

– Equipment and materials utilized by a Upholstery & Mattress shop

– Fire and safety standards and regulations

– Security requirements and practices

– Upholstery materials, techniques, and equipment

Skill in:

– Directing, supervising, and evaluating inmate worker activities

– Verbal and written communication

– Interpersonal skills

– Reupholster techniques

Ability to:

– Operate calculators and personal computers

– Work in a correctional environment

– Reconcile mathematical problems

– Understand complex scheduling needs and inventory issues

– Drive on state business

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S):

Requires possession of, and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to drivers license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12).

SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S):

– Minimum of three years relevant experience in a fast paced production environment

– Supervisory/management experience

– Experience with and knowledge of sewing and upholstery techniques and processes
