Unix-Linux Openshift Engineer II

The Unix Systems Engineer will perform architecture, implementation, administration, configuration, monitoring, updating and documentation of assigned enterprise servers. The Unix Systems Engineer’s responsibilities also entail application/OS upgrades, performance tuning, problem resolution, storage administration, security administration, capacity planning, policy administration, change management, disaster recovery, backup planning and systems analysis. The Unix Systems Engineer should demonstrate the ability to assess and identify appropriate solutions to be integrated into the company’s server operation and make recommendations for implementation. The Unix Systems Engineer will demonstrate expertise in front and back-end system technologies in enterprise environments and display common knowledge of best-practices in many different server technologies. The Unix Systems Engineer will mentor lower experienced technicians as well as server as primary contact for Application Owners of key systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Server system architecture, implementation, administration and documentation
  • Develop and support back-end server technologies in local and remote locations
  • Standardizes Server systems deployment using central deployment technologies
  • Assists peer technicians in troubleshooting and repairing of Server technologies
  • Schedule, communicate and manage change control in an enterprise which supports/effects multiple hardware and software platforms.
  • Provide and support systems management in an environment requiring availability of 99.9 %.
  • Responsible for trouble-shooting different software and hardware issues and documenting the results.
  • Support communications protocol servers for Linux/Windows.
  • Installs, configures, and tests different product sets on Linux operating Systems.
  • Creates repetitive processes and procedures to help with O/S and other hardware/software installations, software/hardware related trouble-shooting, security, and performance testing.
  • Works with team leads and project manager and process engineers to document logical steps of installing operating system and other firmware and software packages.
  • Works directly with customer representative to obtain and refine functional and technical requirements.
  • Satisfies requirements, meets agreed to completion date, and performs unit and integration tests for products developed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (preferred)

  • 7-10 years of experience working with linux and server technologies in a 24 X 7 product environment
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in work experience
  • Experience with scheduling software, prefer Tidal
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting products like Solarwinds, Big Brother, NewRelic, Pingdom
  • Server Software/OS build and patch maintenance
  • Experience with scripting languages like Perl
  • Experience with server hardware and management tools.
  • Expert knowledge of Linux and Unix operating system including RedHat
  • Experience in Enterprise Automation with tools like Puppet or Cfengine

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (preferred)

  • Knowledge with Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Apps
  • RedHat Certification
  • Storage background in SAN Storage solutions
  • Experience in technical project management relating to the implementation of enterprise applications a plus.
  • Familiarity with VMware, vCenter, and related hypervisor technologies
