IDEAL/PREFFERED CANDIDATE: will have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a business field with the requisite in accounting coursework; OR a minimum of 12 hours of accounting coursework and professional tax auditing, accounting or closely related experience.

This position is responsible for conducting field audits and other investigations of Arizona employers to ensure compliance with State and Federal unemployment tax laws and regulations.

These positions are federally funded and are under U.S. Department of Labor guidelines required to audit a minimum of 1% of Arizona employers each year. Auditors routinely exercise professional judgment and discretion to identify employers for audit, make employment tax determinations and issue tax assessments or adjustments for reported wages. Tax Auditors work independently in the field, directly with employers, their accountants or other representatives, analyzing, interpreting, and applying statues, rules, and precedent decisions of the Unemployment Tax Section.

KNOWLEDGE OF: business entities, Corporations, Limited Liability Companies, Partnerships and Proprietorships; accounting systems, audit procedures and Field Unit policies; state law, rules and corresponding provisions of federal statutes and precedent rulings; Field office and Section operating procedures; federally mandated documentation requirements for field audits (Tax Performance System).

SKILL IN: researching relevant statutes, rules and precedent cases; applying audit procedures and mathematical computations; compiling information from examinations of records; oral and written communication; interpersonal relations as applied in the interviewing of employers, their representatives or workers.

ABILITY TO: plan work schedule; manage time effectively and meeting deadlines; make correct employment and tax determinations; communicate tax provisions to business owners or the public in general.

Please Note : In-state travel is required. Additional job requirements for employment are: a valid Arizona driver license,{ valid motor vehicle insurance, current Arizona vehicle registration. Employees may be required to use their own transportation; however, qualified travel expenses will be reimbursed.
