Position Overview

The UI Engineer is our bridge between excellent design and functional code. As front-end developers, they help us build, polish, deploy, and maintain best-of-class experiences for our customers at Autodesk. Our Software Engineers are visual thinkers that use code as their primary tool. They’re leaders with expertise in facilitating conversations between designers and developers to solve complex problems.

Reporting to the UI Engineering Manager, the UI Engineer will work on strategic initiatives to create cohesive and scalable customer experiences that can be leveraged across product lines. The role will require top-notch engineering skills, along with a strategic mindset and the ability to collaborate with different product teams.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in cross-product development and adoption efforts for key initiatives including the new Autodesk cross-platform design system Human Interface Guidelines (HIG)
  • Actively building product team partnerships by working closely with designers as the voice of engineering, and working closely with engineering as the voice of designers
  • Understanding the experience engineering strategy by evaluating the current competitive landscape, analyzing future trends in related fields, and identifying the intersection of business needs, customer needs, and technical opportunities
  • Constructing compelling artifacts and prototypes in code that outline present conditions and proposed solutions to gain strategic alignment and encourage innovation across the organization
  • Having a strong focus on responsive and cross-platform solutions
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of customer experience tools and processes, and scalable experience design standards
  • Embracing and evangelizing standards
  • Defining and ensuring accountability to quality between designers and engineers
  • Providing customers with unique and memorable experiences that are distinctively Autodesk

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ years relevant experience with advanced degree Ph.D. or MS in CS or engineering
  • 2+ years relevant experience with bachelor’s in CS or engineering degree
  • 4+ years of relevant experience without degree in CS or engineering
  • Ability to visualize and prototype intended solutions at various levels of fidelity including high-level prototypes, conceptual presentations, and production-quality code
  • Ability to present code to a wide range of audiences including software development, quality assurance, learning content development, marketing, and sales
  • Up-to-date expertise in human-centered design best practices
  • Familiarity with the technical landscape, and a hunger to learn new things
  • Strong experience with popular front-end libraries, especially REACT
  • Strong knowledge and experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, including HTML5, CSS3, and upcoming HTML APIs
  • Knowledge of the DOM, DOM events, or event binding
  • Support and working knowledge of BEM and SASS
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented/functional programming, including the MVC paradigm
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill complex ideas to their essence
  • Experience with agile software design and development methods
  • Experience building a component library

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, interaction design, new media, or related field; MS/PhD preferred
  • Experience working with architecture and manufacturing products and services
  • Experience with vector and motion graphics, including SVG, HTML5 Canvas, and Animation via JavaScript and CSS
  • Design background
  • Experience with Autodesk products
