TRANSPORTATION/TRAFFIC ENGINEER

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT

STARTING SALARY: $61,148 – $88,664 ANNUALLY DOQ

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will be responding to difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and requests; reviewing traffic impact studies; technical review of public improvement plans, development plans, site plans and plats; providing recommendations for traffic related capital improvement projects; addressing new developments; oversight of traffic division staff; maintaining traffic engineering standards and specifications; conducting analysis of traffic and pedestrian counts, speed studies and parking lot layouts; providing recommendations for the annual traffic calming budget; coordinating agenda items for Transportation Commission meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS: Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering, transportation engineering, or a related field. Four years of increasingly responsible experience in traffic or transportation engineering, civil engineering or a closely related field including at least two years of supervisory and administrative experience. Must have possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer from the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions, as well as possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid Kansas Driver’s license.
