Transit Coordinator, Grade 17

This position is open only to:

(1) Current Montgomery County Government employees;

(2) Montgomery County employee who was affected by reduction-in-force and currently have RIF priority rights;

(3) Active Montgomery County local fire and rescue department volunteers with at least 50 points under the length of service award program; or

(4) Active Montgomery County Government Customized Employment Public Interns, QUEST Interns, Project SEARCH Interns or former Montgomery County Government Customized Employment Public Interns, QUEST Interns, or Project SEARCH Interns within 24 months of completion of internship.

This recruitment will establish an eligible list to fill current and future vacancies, located at any of the three (3) depot locations (Silver Spring/Bethesda Depot; Nicholson Court/Kensington; and Gaithersburg/Rockville Depot).

The Division of Transit Services coordinates transit services in Montgomery County.
Transit accomplishes an essential mobility mission of the County, connecting people, communities, workplaces, educational institutions, recreational opportunities and many other essential destinations.
The Division plans, schedules and manages the County’s own Ride On bus system consisting of County owned and operated buses. The Ride On system is designed to complement the service provided by the other transit providers in the County, and provides almost 30 million trips per year.

The Transit Coordinator positions are responsible for monitoring, coordinating, directing and reporting on a portion of the County Government’s public transit bus service, including initiating short term corrective actions to maintain delivery of safe, timely and efficient transit service throughout a large geographical area of Montgomery County.

This position
REQUIRES
possession of a valid driver’s license from applicant’s state of residence, and the ability to drive a County vehicle
to get/from/around areas of Ride On operations.
Additionally, Transit Coordinators positions will safely operate a passenger bus (during emergencies and for training and demonstrations).

The ability to work variable shifts, weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime is REQUIRED.

The individual selected for this position will be considered an “Essential Employee.”
Essential employees must report to work during a period of general emergency or liberal leave.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience
:
Two (2) years of experience as a Transit Bus Operator.

Education:
Graduation from high school or possession of a High School Certificate of completion recognized in the State of Maryland.

Equivalency
:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

OTHER:

  • Applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age on the first day of employment in this job class.

LICENSE:

At appointment/placement
in the class, a Transit Coordinator must p
ossess a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsements from the incumbent’s state of residence in order to drive a transit bus during emergencies and for training and demonstrations; the license must be maintained.

Preferred Criteria

1.
Experience working with the different traffic/transit conditions throughout Montgomery County and the impact of the presenting issues/conditions upon bus operators, passengers and equipment involved.

2.
Experience using various computer software programs to enter, track and report a variety of transit information.

3.
Experience as a supervisor.

All applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be reviewed and rated by subject matter experts based on the Preferred Criteria.
Based on the results of Preferred Criteria evaluation, applicants will be rated and placed on the Eligible List as either “Qualified” or “Well Qualified.” The highest rated applicants will be placed on the Eligible List and may be considered for interview. Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are the same grade will be placed on Eligible List as a “Lateral Transfer” candidate and may be considered for interview.
Note:
In the event there are 10 or fewer minimally qualified candidates, all will be placed on the Eligible List as Qualified and Hiring Managers will be required to interview a minimum of five candidates. For “seniority” jobs (as shown in Article 8), resumes will be reviewed and rated by subject matter experts based on the Preferred Criteria.
