Training Specialist

This position provides initial and on-going in-service training to South Dakota State Penitentiary staff and volunteers in a classroom and on-the-job setting. The content of the training provided involves a wide range of Corrections related curriculum intended to prepare those attending to work safely and effectively with the inmate population.

Successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a background investigation. An arrest/conviction record will not necessarily bar employment. Offers of employment are conditional upon successful completion of a drug screening.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
The ideal candidate will have prior experience or education as an educator; and/or prior corrections, military or law enforcement work experience.

Knowledge of:
principles, methods, and techniques of adult learning;

the effective use of instructional media;

teaching methods and principles;

individual and group behavior;

applicable computer and software use.

Ability to:
organize and develop instructional material and present information and material in an interesting and challenging manner;

organize and maintain records and appropriate documentation;

apply applicable department policies during training;

evaluate individual and/or group instructional needs;

communicate sufficiently to teach adults;

maintain proficiency in subject matter taught.
