The Traffic Control Agent (TCA) is non-sworn employee of the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC) Airport Police Department serving the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (MSP). Duties include providing traffic direction and enforcement of parking regulations at Terminals 1 & 2 of MSP, and where directed, providing effective customer service to the general public. Interact professionally and appropriately as a representative of MAC and the Airport Police Department.

STATUS : PROVISIONAL

Provisional status assignments are typically renewed annually based on department need and performance. Provisional status employees are required by state law to participate in the Minnesota Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) pension fund and are not eligible for benefits.

HIRING PROCESS

Candidates that are successful in the panel interview will be required to complete an in-depth background investigation.

SHIFT HOURS

This position consists of working 8-10 hour shifts, 24/7 to include nights, weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the airport. Training and uniforms will be provided.

Position Description:

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Direct the traffic flow in front of the terminal buildings, concourses and other areas at the MSP Airport
  • Respond to public requests for service
  • Identify and report criminal activities
  • Analyze customer situations and make decisions on circumstance and ordinances
  • Ensure public compliance with existing parking ordinances
  • Assist in traffic control at accidents and special events

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED
  • One year previous customer service experience
  • Possess or eligible to obtain a valid, state-issued driver’s license by date of hire
  • Ability to provide information to public in a tactful and courteous manner
  • Currently certified or able to become certified in Standard Multimedia First Aid or equivalent level certification within 90 days of employment (will train upon hire)
  • Ability to work outdoors (walking, standing, directing traffic, etc.) in all weather conditions for a prolonged period of time
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours including weekends, holidays and overtime as required
  • Must have the ability to clearly speak, read, write, and understand English
  • Candidates who are offered employment will be required to pass a background investigation, obtain a MAC badge and pass a medical examination

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Previous traffic control experience
  • Two years or more experience in customer service with direct public contact
  • Geographical knowledge of the MSP campus
  • Previous work experience in an airport environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a second language
