Theodore Jamerson Elementary School (TJES) Network Administrator

Reports Directly To: TJES Principal Status: Non-Exempt Salary: DOE

Summary of Duties:

  • Administers systems and servers related to district LAN and WAN, telephone, and technology installed A/V systems for ensuring availability of services to authorized users.
  • Designs and creates computer networks, network topology and network engineering (e.g. Internet, Intranet, web mail, FTP servers) to ensure effective and efficient computer operations.
  • Manages and maintains network firewalls, antivirus servers, and email spam filters.
  • Maintains network operations and software applications, operating systems, server backup, and routine maintenance programs for efficient operations, according to UTTC IT policy.
  • Manages assigned projects and program components (e.g. migration to new systems; scheduling installations, product research) for delivering services in compliance with established guidelines or objectives.
  • Participates in a variety of planning and development activities for creating short and long-range plans for the ongoing support to the institution.
  • Recommends equipment, supplies and materials to acquire required items and complete jobs efficiently.
  • Researches trends, products, equipment and tests for recommending procedures or purchases.
  • Responds courteously and in a timely manner to requests for technical assistance and support from a variety of sources (e.g. staff, administrators, faculty, and service providers).
  • Troubleshoots malfunctions of network hardware and software applications within the institutions local and wide area networks, telephones, security systems and A/V systems (servers, hubs, router/switch, network protocols) to resolve operational issues and restoring services.
  • Facilitates audio/video (AV) set-up for in-services, presentations and demonstrations, and campus meetings (i.e. Board of Directors).
  • Works collaboratively with IT Director and IT department. Participates in staff development, staff meetings, and all campus in-services.
  • Maintains established organizational policies and procedures, strict confidentiality and safety and quality assurance standards.
  • Troubleshoot Mac and CP platforms.
  • Install and pull cable, connect various smart boards, projectors, computers, and printers
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

Working Conditions:

General office conditions. Normal working hours are 8:00 am until 5:00 pm with an one hour for lunch. Additional hours will be required as needed to complete projects. Occasional travel may be required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job; the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finer, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift, bend, stoop and carry computer equipment and/or other equipment as needed. Able to crawl into attics and crawl spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree in Computer Science; Management, Computer or Business Information Systems; Microcomputer Technology; Information Technology; Desktop Technology; or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of technical experience providing user support services in a variety of areas to include: applications development and business process analysis and network and desktop PC support services.
  • Individual must have current valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Server 2003 with Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL Server, Cisco router configuration, cabling techniques for category5 Ethernet and fiber terminations.
