TELECOMMUNICATIONS DESIGN SPECIALIST

The specialist will work in a developing capacity with increased responsibility for performing a range of radio/telecommunications assignments. The specialist should have experience with Land Mobile Radio Systems (LMR) that includes knowledge of P25 trunking systems – both Phase 1 and Phase 2, system fleet-mapping, LMR best practices and solutions including equipment set-up, programming, testing, and interoperability. Public safety operations experience is highly desirable as well as COMT or COML certifications.

The specialist will design radio/telecommunications systems and will establish models of best practices for the efficient operation of a radio or telecom system. The specialist will direct work flow that relates to the processing of system change requests. They will also notify users, customers, co-workers, NOC and vendors of system issues, status, order management, and other related information; they will be responsible to take requests from authorized users and enable changes as well as diagnose and troubleshoot equipment, systems and networks for incident resolution. They will operate radio system trunking schemes and other networks.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in any field and experience equal to four years of full-time work in one or any combination of:

a. The construction, plant, commercial, or marketing section of a telephone company; or

b. Professional electrical engineering design and/or maintenance of communications systems and equipment; or

c. Government or private industry where the primary responsibility involved the planning, designing, implementation, coordination, and maintenance of telecommunications systems.
