About the position:

Dimagi is seeking a Technical Writer with excellent written communication skills to support our growing software-as-a-service (SaaS) user base with world-class documentation. The Technical Writer will produce high-quality and understandable product documentation to improve the success of our self-service users. Housed within our Product Team, you will join a team of talented developers, product managers, and program managers dedicated to improving the way frontline services are delivered in low-resource settings. The ideal candidate will have proven experience with content development for a technical and/or SaaS product.

This position can be based out of our office in Cape Town, South Africa, but is also open to remote employment within South Africa. This position will be part of Dimagi’s SaaS division. This role is a 12-month fixed-term position with the option for converting to a permanent status pending re-evaluation of requirements at the end of the contract.


Responsibilities of this role:

  • Plan, write, and design easy-to-understand user guides, online help pages, and internal feature descriptions
  • Interview internal subject matter experts and external users to obtain an in-depth understanding of Dimagi’s products and its documentation requirements
  • Collaborate with Dimagi’s Customer Support team to improve existing documentation
  • Collaborate with Dimagi’s Product team to create documentation for new features
  • Analyze existing and potential content, focusing on reuse and single-sourcing opportunities
  • Create and maintain the architecture of Dimagi’s internal and external documentation within Confluence
  • Who You Must Be:

  • 2+ years of experience in a technical field
  • Experience in developing content for a technical and/or SaaS product
  • Ability to deliver high-quality documentation with keen attention to detail
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text, images, or videos
  • Excellent written skills in English
  • Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
  • Team player
  • Excellent time-management skills
  • Bonus Points:

  • Proven creative skills in the usage of images, diagrams, animations, and videos that increase users’ understanding of complex software
  • Experience in developing, managing, and/or executing a documentation roadmap
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic familiarity with the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Strong working knowledge of G-Suite and Atlassian Confluence
