Technical Assistant VI (2 positions available)

Under the direction of the Digitization and Preservation Project Manager within the Preservation and Digital Conversion Department, the incumbent will perform a variety of tasks to support the Library’s time-based media digitization initiative including: performing quality control on digitized audio and moving image materials; creating, editing, and verifying metadata; conducting preservation processing using the Archivematica software package; preparing and packing archival audio and moving materials to be shipped to vendors; gathering and preparing statistics; performing other duties as assigned.

THIS IS A ONE YEAR POSITION STARTING JULY 1, 2018 AND ENDS JUNE 30, 2019, with possibility of extension.

  • A Listening test will be given at interview*

**There are two positions available; each incumbent will serve 1 year from July 1, 2018 ending June 30, 2019, with possibility of extension.**

Schedule: Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:00pm or Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:00pm

Minimum Qualifications for Grade

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant

  • Previous work experience with digital audio and video files and A/V playback software.
  • Ability to accurately assess quality of audio and video files, including critical listening and viewing skills.
  • Experience with standard desktop office tools, such as Microsoft Office.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain production levels
  • Ability to lift heavy boxes weighing up to 25lbs;
  • Ability to exercise extreme care when working with rare and fragile materials.

Special Instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree;
  • Experience using audio editing and management software such as Adobe Audition;
  • Work experience in a library setting preferred;
  • Experience handling and working with archival audio and moving image media formats;
  • Knowledge of time-based media preservation workflows;
  • Experience with and knowledge of digital media file formats;
  • Experience with audio and/or video quality control, including proficiency with A/V quality control software;
  • Experience with MediaInfo or other file analysis tools;
  • Experience with command line operations
