Systems Engineer/Spec 1

Primetals Technologies, a worldwide leading engineering and manufacturer of capital equipment for the steel making industry, known for our strengths in mechanical engineering, electronics, automation, manufacturing, project management and service is hiring for the following position: Systems Engineer/Spec 1

Location: Alpharetta, GA Required Travel: 40%

Required Education: BS/BA in related discipline, or advanced degree, where required, or equivalent combination of education and experience in automation and controls.

Position Overview:

Develops the design of very complex systems that integrate hardware and software. Develops very complex material specification, schematic preparation and appropriate follow-up. Develops recommendations for ideas related to productivity improvement, cost reduction and improvement in customer satisfaction. Guides very complex technical interchange and knowledge transfer for both processes and application of products to system design.

Duties in general to include:

Designs and specifies hardware for PLC/HMI based control systems.

Creates and tests software programs for programmable controllers for specific industrial applications

Travels to customer site to test and commission automation system

Seeks advice and guidance on non-routine or problem areas from others

Identifies problems as they occur and takes appropriate steps to solve them in situations where the problem is not highly difficult or complex.

Works with immediate manager, others in the group, project manager, project team and customer during project commissioning

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

Performs advanced areas of work for the professional field. Applies advanced skills to resolve complex problems not covered by existing procedures or practices independently. Displays a high level of critical thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-functional problems.

Required Skills/Knowledge, Education and Experience:

Strong foundation in programming and computer skills. Good team skills and ability to work effectively in large, diverse, multinational groups. Willingness to travel extensively in the US and abroad and work long hours on industrial job sites including some weekends and holiday periods. Willingness to work long hours (12-16) on these assignments with up to 15-20 days without a break

Demonstrates and applies comprehensive knowledge of field of specialization to the successful completion of complex assignments. Demonstrates advanced knowledge of concept, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization. Demonstrates significant knowledge of organizations business practices and issues faced and contributes to problem resolution of those issues. Typically 2-3 years of successful experience in related filed and successful demonstration of Key Responsibilities and Knowledge as presented above, Advanced degree MAY be substituted for experience, where applicable.

General knowledge of management policies and principles. Detailed knowledge of specific equipment, processes, systems and facilities related to mechanical engineering of steel mill equipment. Detailed knowledge of complex engineering principles, calculation methods, equipment design, equipment selection and function. General knowledge of computer systems associated with discipline. Ability to make final engineering decisions in discipline managed.
