Systems Engineer (entry level) – Sunnyvale

The Flight Operations Support (FOS) Satellite Subsystem Technical Advisor (SSTA) team are considered the day-to-day subject matter experts on the various hardware components on the Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) GEO vehicles. SSTA’s are expected to acquire in-depth knowledge of the components within their assigned subsystems and are responsible for the daily state of health and operability of the components. An SSTA supports each GEO space vehicles operations from factory integration and test until decommission. Additional duties, at a minimum, include: supporting all pre-launch readiness rehearsals, development of command products, launch and early orbit test console support, Day In The Life testing, documenting operational processes, product delivery, identifying requirements for and support execution of flight objectives, provide technical direction for problem and anomaly resolution, and to perform post-pass analysis of vehicle telemetry to trend subsystem hardware characteristics. The subsystems that the SSTA group are responsible for are: Guidance Navigation and Control, Command and Data Handling, Electrical and Power, Thermal, Pointing Control Assembly, Flight Software, Fault Management, and Communications. The specific subsystem that this particular SSTA position will be responsible for will be determined at the time of hiring.

Ability to obtain Secret Clearance required for this role.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in engineering or related discipline. Demonstrated success in efforts to resolve significant technical issues. Candidate must be a team player and be willing to be on-call 24 hours per day, seven days per week as required. Overtime and weekend work is required as necessary. Some travel may be required.
This position requires special access to support the program and requires the selected candidate to be a US Citizen.

Desired skills
Experience with Launch and Early Orbit Test (L&EOT) execution of military satellites. Experience interfacing with remote satellite operation sites. Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering degree. Understanding of satellite fault management systems: response, root cause analysis, and resolution. Experience in customer relations and interfaces. Familiarity with C++, UNIX, Matlab, Satellite Tool Kit, Satellite Control Language, and the Microsoft Office Suite.
