Job Description : The ‘Systems Engineer – Operational Tools & Automation’ role provides engineering, integration, development and senior level operational support of system technologies and tools that enable IT operations. This role is responsible for configuring and developing core and custom solutions for IT operational tools such as Splunk, Zabbix, SolarWinds and Dynatrace. This role also supports configuration management and orchestration efforts by supporting and configuring tools such as Puppet, GitHub and Jenkins. This person contributes monitoring architectural input to and maintains stability of these platforms by ensuring the appropriate design and development standards are used at all times. This role will participate in the consolidation of existing tool sets as well as identifying, developing, installing, testing, and supporting new tools. This role functions within an Agile management methodology and supports IT operations within an ITIL operational framework.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Perform all phases of engineering, including: requirements analysis, application configuration, integration, development and testing to support multiple platforms. Designing and implementing configuration management and automation through orchestration
• Provide efficiencies by automating manual tasks. Work with multiple groups to prioritize this work and ensure that the finished product meets requirements
• Work collaboratively to establish roadmaps, determine new features and capabilities, while aligning with adopted best practice frameworks such as ITIL. Ensure that the user interface to these applications are intuitive and easy to use.
• Establish guidelines and best practices for operational tools and governance

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5 or more years of Software Engineering, Application Development, DevOps, or other experience with relevant software packages

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Solid Microsoft Suite knowledge
• Strong knowledge of one or more server operating systems
• Strong understanding and ability to develop/script in one or more of the following languages: XML, Java Script, JSON, Perl, Python, PowerShell, BASH, SQL
• Working knowledge of APIs such as SOAP and REST
• Knowledge of DevOps framework including orchestration, automation and continuous deployment
• Understanding of object oriented programming
• Strong knowledge of ITIL v3 or newer
