Systems Analyst, Developer

The Commons, located in Minneapolis, is the headquarters of Allina Health, a not-for-profit health care organization serving patients and communities. Approximately 1,600 corporate and administrative service employees work at offices within Midtown Exchange, the site of the historic Sears retail complex at Chicago Avenue and E. Lake Street. This community landmark, adjacent to the campus of Abbott Northwestern Hospital, part of Allina Health, is the second largest building in Minnesota and includes offices, an internationally themed public market and residential units.

Design, develop, implement and support technical solutions:

  • Consult with business analysts and other team members in estimating and sizing technology projects.
  • Configure applications to meet the business requirements and technical functional specifications.
  • Consult with technical, functional, and vendor resources to maintain the appropriate application environment(s).
  • Install, configure, test, support and monitor information systems to meet requirements and technical specifications.
  • Participate in, manage, and monitor system setup, performance, and capacity planning.
  • Provide information system support and troubleshooting.
  • Manage system interfaces.
  • Provide on-call support.
  • Work with software vendors in the diagnosis of and application problems of vendor software programs.
  • Apply patches and fixes as appropriate.

Application programming:

  • Utilizing programming languages such as C++, Java, Cobalt, and .NET to design, code, test, debug, document and maintain programs to provide new functionality to an existing system or stand alone applications.
  • Translates systems requirements into functional technical specifications.

Project management:

  • Understands basics of project management. Actively participates in project teams.

Education
BS/BA degree preferred in computer science or related business area.

Qualification/Skills

  • 3-4 years experience working as a systems analyst or related job on technical application systems in one or more aspects of technical application systems or areas of the business.
  • Programmer analyst experience.
  • Involves typical and recurring assignments under limited supervision
  • Under limited supervision, formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems.
  • Analyzes and evaluates existing or proposed systems to process data
  • Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.
  • Prepares detailed technical specifications from which programs will be written.
  • Demonstrated expertise of general software development methods, design, and programming techniques.
  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents and maintains programs with general supervision from more senior systems analysts/programmers.
  • Creates or updates supporting systems documentation and implements the new system (or current system changes) into production for ongoing operation
  • Investigates and identifies systems changes or new applications required
  • Analyzes and corrects reported production systems performance problems and documents any changes made.
  • Competent to work on most phases of applications systems analysis and programming activities, but requires instruction and guidance in other phases.
  • Develops collaborative partnerships across departments, business units and Allina to achieve results and improve performance
  • Takes initiative to become more knowledgeable about Allina’s business and healthcare industry trends
  • Challenges others’ thinking to create effective and efficient work processes
  • Adapts quickly to changing business and technology needs
  • Demonstrates sound business judgment

Monday – Friday, Regular Office Hours
