The Systems Analyst position is responsible for server administration in a large virtualized, mixed solutions environment providing centralized services to the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. Forty-plus Microsoft Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers provide stable and secure web, database, administration, backup, file and print services, development and test platforms in addition to more specialized applications to leadership, faculty, staff, and students. This position has the primary responsibility for the Windows environment and requires expertise in Windows Server software, MSSQL, Active Directory, System Center Configuration Manager, IIS, Windows file and print services, and Microsoft Office and is backup for the RHEL environment. The Systems Analyst is responsible for installation, maintenance, security, monitoring, audits, reporting, and life cycle/change planning of these servers and core applications and needs a working knowledge of VMware vSphere. The position works in conjunction and collaboration with the other members of the Systems department including systems analysts, database administrators, web developers, and the group manager. The analyst also works with other groups within IIS and throughout the School to evaluate technology, service, and security requests and is a close collaborator with UNC ITS infrastructure and operations, messaging, and security. A successful Systems Analyst will balance the requirements of daily systems administration tasks with more urgent demands for rapid evaluation and response to immediate issues. Intellectual curiosity, self-directed learning, and regular technology research are expected. They will communicate and create understanding with end users as well as other technologists through email, face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and well written technical documentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or closely related degree from an appropriately accredited institution; and one year of experience in operations analysis and design systems programming or closely related area; or – Associate’s degree in Computer Information Technology, Computer Engineering Technology or Networking Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in operations analysis and design, systems programming or closely related area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. – Journey level requires an additional one year of education or experience. – Advanced level requires an additional two years of education or experience.
