Systems Administrator

Position Overview:

The System Administrator (SA) is responsible for effective installation, configuration, operation, maintenance and optimization of IT systems and applications. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation. The SA ensures that operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, volunteers, and partners. The SA provides technical support to project teams, IT help desk and other staff. Adheres to and practices the St. John’s Medical Center Corporate Compliance Program and participates in Performance Improvement activities. Performs other duties as assigned by IT Manager and CIO.

Essential Functions:

1. Configure new applications and systems in accordance with SJMC standards, project/operational requirements and in coordination with engineering team.

2. Perform daily system monitoring, review system and application logs and verify completion of scheduled jobs and nightly processes.

3. Apply operating system patches and application upgrades on a regular basis. Be accountable as a subject matter expert on assigned applications/systems. Will be responsible for coordination of application upgrades and applying operating system updates.

4. Provide escalation support to IT Technical Support Specialists as senior level tech, including troubleshooting, deploying resolutions and judgment of when to escalate to engineering team. When necessary, provide coverage for Help Desk.

5. In coordination with engineering team and other members of systems team, serve as team lead in designated department projects or as designated IT team lead in designated multidisciplinary projects.

6. Support users in application access following the SJMC security model. Provide day to day application level management of various security systems.

7. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures. Document server systems & policies for departmental and organizational use.

8. Research and recommend innovative and automated approaches that leverage resources and provide economies of scale in coordination with engineering team.

Required Education & Experience:

-2 years experience in Information Technology

-Working understanding of current technologies

-In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows server and desktop operating systems

-Demonstrated ability to support users in a fast paced enterprise environment

Preferred Education & Experience:

Prior experience in a healthcare setting, preferably a community healthcare system including a hospital and clinics

Recent experience as an Information Technology System Administrator

Information Technology industry certifications

Familiarity with or having a working understanding of:

o Workstation and Server Virtualization and associated systems

o Local Area Networks and Wireless Networks

o Project Management and processes

o Active Directory and associated systems

o Anti-Virus and other data security systems

o Backup and DR solutions and philosophies

o Various communication technologies

o Database administration

o Internet/Intranet and associated traffic protocols

o Command Line Interface management of systems

o Unix/Linux administration
