Systems Administrator

The Systems Administrator oversees Security Information and Event Management ( SIEM ) and Personally Identifiable Information ( PII ) monitoring for the College, as well as manages the systems that provide services for Administrative Information Services ( AIS ). These systems support the College’s ERP , database middleware, and application servers. In addition, this position provides a supporting role for general electronic services such as electronic mail, calendaring, electronic access such as Active Directory and CAS .

Responsibilities of the Systems Administrator include, but are not limited to, the following:

SIEM AND PII SUPPORT

• Work with SIEM vendor to configure, monitor, and respond to security events identified by SIEM technologies and other native tools in a Unix and Windows environment.

• Manage PII identification tool (Identity Finder) to monitor and report on PII information discovered on client devices.

• Manage and coordinate ongoing scans of employee devices.

• Provide security events analysis and support to identify and mitigate potential threats to College assets.

SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION

• Install and maintain operating system, firmware and layered products.

• Perform capacity planning and resource management.

• Create and maintain interfaces to other systems.

• Create, document, implement and execute as needed: system backups, recovery plans, current levels of application and operating system software, policies and procedures for turning over modifications to the production environment.

• Research software and hardware products to determine the feasibility of using them to provide, enhance, or replace IT services.

• Install products and develop benchmarks before final selection and implementation into production.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, and three or more years of experience working as a Systems Administrator in a UNIX and Windows environment required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Strong interpersonal and presentation skills. Ability to communicate technical concepts and issues with non-technical audiences both verbally and written.

• Experience with UNIX , Windows server, and VMware.

• Ability to be on-call 24/7, as required.

• Knowledge of basic business data processing.

• Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

• Customer service orientation.

• Team-oriented, versatile, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a complex and changing environment.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to create documentation.

• Ability to accommodate multiple, conflicting demands for commitment and effort.

• Flexibility to adjust and thrive in a changing work place.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience or professional training/education with managing and installation of web infrastructure, Tomcat, Java, and/or Oracle Middle Tier.

• AIX , Linux experience.

• Experience working with Active Directory (AD) and Central Authentication Services ( CAS ).

• Management and understanding of system and event logs required for Unix and Windows systems.

• Experience working with SIEM products.

• Certifications: GIAC – Certified Incident Handler, VMware certification, Linux (redhat) certification, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate ( MCSA ) or expert ( MCSE ).
