Supervising Technology Systems Specialist

Under direction, the Supervising Technology Systems Specialist (Supervising TSS) will provide supervision and formal technical lead to lower-level technology professionals in the management of IT operations which include the development, support, installation and maintenance of hardware, software and middleware, including a variety of departmental and countywide computer systems and programs, operating systems, desktop applications, servers, user accounts and the department’s website. The position will lead the team that prioritizes and responds to employee help desk calls, coordinates end-user training, and acts as a liaison between employees and technical subject matter experts. The Supervising TSS will be responsible for making recommendations on hardware, software, middleware, implementation and training. The Supervising TSS will maintain complete and accurate records relating to technology budget, equipment replacement schedules, licenses and other technology related administrative needs. The position is responsible for the full range of supervisory duties which include training, evaluating, coaching and disciplining. The position will work collaboratively with the department’s management team. The Supervising TSS represents the department on internal and external committees. The position will be required to work after hours or on weekends occasionally.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate possesses both technical expertise and excellent interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate possesses experience:

  • Managing desktop/laptop computers, server operations, active directory, print servers, exchange servers, network protocols, date recovery, web design, property assessment and document recording systems, and imaging technology
  • Assessing requests for complex technological assistance
  • Translating (verbally and in writing) technical instruction to non-technical staff and translating non-technical instruction into technical terms, and writing effective instructional materials
  • Supervising staff, including coaching, evaluating and disciplining; demonstrating sound judgment and best practice

The ideal candidate is:

  • Efficient in time management with assigned workload by completing projects in a timely and positive manner
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with the ability of prioritize and shift gears as needed.

  • Outstanding self-management skills including strong initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team with members of different backgrounds
  • Experience researching, analyzing, evaluating and making recommendations for complex technology needs and making clear, concise and effective presentations to executive and management staff
  • A proven track record of:
    • Leading a team successfully
    • Developing and maintaining successful, professional, respectful and collaborative working relationships with others at all levels
    • Demonstrating leadership, sound judgment and positive conflict resolution skills
    • Approaching his/her assignments with professional integrity, a strong work ethic and enthusiasm

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed above. Typically, the equivalent of completion of two years of college level or technical training in computer science or a closely related field and four years of performing network and/or personal computer user support.

Experience in PC repair, network administration, application and software troubleshooting, computer operations, or a substantially similar field may be substituted for the college requirement on a year for year basis.
