Student Worker 3/ Reading Buddies Tutor – FALL 2017 Semester

Reading Tutor

Reading Tutor for 4 elementary students at one of 2 local elementary schools, located within a 5 mile radius to campus. Will tutor students twice a week, 30 mins. each student, for a total of 2 hours. Additional planning & travel time will be provided.

Weekly Hours: 7 hours per week, $15.00/hour

**Must provide own transportation

Responsibilities include:

-Attend mandatory bi-monthly trainings

-Prepare individualized lessons for 4 students

-Turn in lesson plans weekly on WebCampus

-Reflect on each lesson

-Assess and track student progress

-Communicate with supervisor regularly through WebCampus

All tutors are held to a high professional standard.

**Must be available Monday-Friday between 9:00am to 3:00pm

-Preferred semester class schedule will include at least 3 blocks of 2.5 hours or more to allow more options to schedule tutors in teacher classrooms.

-Hours also preferred between 9:00am – 11:30am and 12:30pm – 3:00pm.

10 tutoring positions available. Position will run from September 5, 2017 through December 13, 2017

This position is being funded by awards from the University of Nevada, Reno Regent’s Service Program. Awards must be made pursuant to the Board-established guidelines for student access (Title 4, Chapter 18) providing that at least 80 percent of funds shall be used for need-based programs. The remaining funds will go toward access-oriented programs. For the purposes of this program, federal government methodology criteria for determining need shall be replaced with the following:

a. Enrolled in a degree or certificate program, in at least six credits of academic work at the institution for which they will participate in the Regents’ Service Program.

b. Meet at least one of the following criteria:

-Head of Household;

-Single Parent;

-Age 22 or over and have never attended college or a break in enrollment of two or more years;

-No support from parents or family;

-Unusual family or financial circumstances; or

-First generation college-bound.

c. Students who meet multiple criteria shall be given priority in the program.

d. Priority shall be given to eligible Nevada residents.

Required Qualifications

Enrolled in minimum of (6) credits for Fall, maintain minimum GPA of 2.0 for undergraduates.
