Storage Management Consultant

Job Summary

The Storage Management Consultant assists enterprise clients in using NetApp OnCommand Insight to manage, analyze and optimize their storage technology infrastructure. The goal of this service is to support the use of data-driven insights to identify opportunities for optimization within IT and improve IT business performance. This position makes use of a wide variety of skills and knowledge, ranging from technology infrastructure and operations to business intelligence and data analysis. The Storage Management Consultant position offers a flexible work environment as part of a growing team of consultants at different experience levels and the opportunity to focus on optimization of storage infrastructure, performance, event and configuration data analysis and report development.

Your background and experience includes storage administration/operations, storage resource management tools (SRM) and the ability to apply this expertise to solve IT business problems. Your passion is guiding customers in discovering actionable opportunities for infrastructure optimization and valuable insights for storage service delivery and automation. You don’t mind dealing with cloud or hybrid storage environments and enjoy a technical challenge. You enjoy sharing your diverse experience with customers in a consultative engagement and have grown beyond pure storage operations/administration.

Responsibilities and Duties

This position requires a hands-on technical consultant who enjoys working with clients to guide their business requirements and develop custom solutions that meet their needs. Hands-on expertise in databases, SQL, and custom report development using Business Intelligence engines such as IBM Cognos, Pentaho, SAP Business Objects, Tableau or another major platform is required. The consultant’s primary role will vary depending on the customer but will range from initial requirements gathering, to systems architecture and configuration to custom SQL-query design for data extraction or reporting purposes. Consultants will be expected to take leadership roles with their primary client contacts to establish and develop relationships and assist in managing client engagements.

Qualifications and Skills

This position requires a hands-on technical consultant who enjoys working in a large scale enterprise IT environment. Hands-on expertise in NetApp OnCommand Insight, storage administration / operations, and IBM Cognos is required. The consultant’s primary role will vary depending on the customer but will range from operation and administration of OCI to data analysis and custom dashboard / report development. Consultants will be expected to take leadership roles with their primary client contacts to establish and develop relationships and assist in managing client relationships.

Required

  • This position will require regular on-site work at customer location.
  • 2-4 years experience with NetApp OnCommand Insight.
  • 2-4 years experience with enterprise storage systems from a major vendor (key storage vendors are NetApp, EMC, HDS or IBM).
  • Demonstrable skill level with OS and systems level management, configuration and troubleshooting on Windows and Linux.
  • Working knowledge of shell scripting (UNIX shells, PERL and/or Windows PowerShell).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent task management and workload organization skills.

Preferred

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or Mathematics.
  • Design / Administration experience in enterprise databases (Oracle, MySQL, MS SQL Server, etc.).
  • Demonstrable ability to write, optimize and troubleshoot complex SQL queries to retrieve and analyze data from databases such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
  • Hands-on working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and data warehouse architectures.
  • Enterprise data warehouse administration, design and / or development experience.
  • ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) process design, development and support.
  • Experience with a major Business Intelligence platform such as Tableau, QlikView, IBM Cognos, Microsoft SSRS / SSAS, MS PowerBI, Pentaho, SAS or SAP Business Objects.
