Storage Engineer

Travelport is looking for a motivated, energetic Storage Engineer professional for our Infrastructure Services team. We are interested in people passionate about helping internal and external organizations take advantage of new opportunities, address business challenges, and improve efficiencies.

This role supports overall infrastructure and systems; collaborating, partnering and supporting all areas of technology throughout the business!

Main Accountabilities:
Supports the activity of more senior level Storage Engineers in the design and implementation of storage infrastructure and associated management software.

Able to manage complex zSeries Enterprise storage infrastructure without supervision.

Based on system parameters and historic data perform basic level troubleshooting and analysis to determine ways to improve reliability, scalability and performance.

This position also requires 24 x 7 x 365 off-hours support and interacts consistently with the z/OS and z/VM Systems Software area with problem determination and resolution.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience, Training, Education:
4-year college degree (preferably in IT) or equivalent experience.

Less than 5 years’ storage management and/or storage administration experience.

Able to successfully handle multiple assignments concurrently.

Able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

Able to follow technical methods and standards.

Travel industry experience preferred.

Has domain knowledge of core zSeries Enterprise storage technologies.

Broad technical skills in zSeries Enterprise storage hardware (DASD and VTS) and associated software.

Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and embrace an ever-changing environment, competing priorities, and high expectations

Must have a bias for action, be results oriented and have a proven track record of success

Technical expertise in the following areas is preferred:
Storage management experience with virtual tape for mainframe systems (IBM TS7740/20, RMM, CA-1)

Storage management experience for mainframe DASD (IBM DS8x00, FlashCopy, PPRC, Hyperswap/Metro Mirror, GLOBAL Copy, TDMF)

Accountability for enforcement of storage rules and standards, monitoring DASD/Tape usage, insuring data integrity and maintaining catalogues, and the routines of z/OS storage backup, archive, migration, restore, compression, idle space release, management reporting, and DASD conversion and/or movement.

Considerable experience in the use and/or administration of the following software: IBM utilities, DFP, DFDSS, SMS, HSM, RMM, CA-PDSMAN, DIF/ACC/SRS, Rocket Catalog RecoveryPlus, Rocket HSM Fast Audit/390, and TDMF.

Backup and recovery of z/OS systems for business continuity and Disaster Recovery testing.

Project Management skillset desired for use in the Data Storage Management area.

Context/Environment:
General office environment, except during periods of travel.

Able to work effectively with peers in other geographical locations.

Manages, guides and/or *influences the deliverables of a team of up to 50. *Influences means engages people in other areas of the business who are stakeholders and actively work on effort to bring it to delivery

Able to work effectively in a 24 x 7 support organization.

Working Relationship: This position requires a large degree of interaction with peers, senior team members, other Travelport groups and/or external customers.

Proficient writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external customers.

Strong ability to work with vendors to design and implement solutions.
