Staff Assistant I

Hours are; Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with flexibility.

This position is located at, 4411 South 108th Street, Omaha, NE.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Act as a representative of the agency to the public by assisting walk-in customers and handling phone calls regarding criminal history background check processes and statuses, Concealed Carry and explosive permits, fingerprinting using Livescan and ink, DNA sampling for and registering with the Sex Offender Registry. Data entry of requests for criminal history record information and permit applications by accepting, processing, and verifying information from arresting agencies and court dispositions, utilizing the Patrol Criminal History and other criminal justice databases, as well as telephone and fax. Accepts, provides receipts, deposits, keeps safe, and accounts for all money received and the entries of that money into the administrative and accounting systems. some in-state travel may be required. Be an integral team member and assist with daily functions and projects as requested; and other duties as directed by the CID management team.

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIREMENTS: Coursework/training in administrative/office support functions, procedures, and methods including the operation of personal computers and office equipment; research; or areas related to the programs and functions of the employing agency OR experience in performing administrative/office/secretarial support work including the use of personal computers and office equipment.

PREFERRED: Experience with Microsoft Office Software. Excellent telephone skills are essential.

OTHER: Regular and reliable attendance is expected. Applicant must successfully complete an extensive background screening prior to being employed, which includes completion of a Personal History Questionnaire. Applicants will be screened for a record of criminal activity and criminal history using a fingerprint-based check and before unconditional employment is offered. Applicants must be free of felony convictions, and cannot maintain a continuous association or dealings with persons, groups, or organizations that they know, or should know are persons or groups or organizations under criminal investigation or indictment or who have a reputation for present, ongoing involvement in felonious or criminal behavior. Selection process will include an interview.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF: office procedures, administrative work assigned to the position, sources of information pertinent to the assigned work; the principles and practices of record keeping. SKILL IN: need strong and effective communications skills including knowledge of English grammar, spelling, etc. ABILITY TO: communicate in person and by telephone, computer, email, or correspondence to exchange information and ideas; work independently with limited supervision; gather, compile, generate, and disseminate information; interact and maintain a close working relationship with diverse individuals and groups to include: law enforcement agencies, agency administrative personnel, and the public is essential. Learn the organizational structure, mission, and activities of the State Patrol; learn agency policies and procedures pertinent to the work assigned.
