Staff Accounting & Finance Analyst

POSITION PURPOSE

The Staff Accounting and Finance Analyst is responsible for providing support to the Accounting and Finance department for a variety of essential functions including but not limited to account reconciliations, month end financial statement preparation, journal entries and budget preparation and analysis. Performs what-if analysis for product profitability. This position will also be responsible for assisting with the Allowance for Loan Losses (“ALLL”) calculation and reports each month, learning and backing up the ALM modeling system, performing profitability and “what if” analysis and playing an integral role in the budget and forecast process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

1. Assumes responsibility for performing assigned accounting and related analytical functions.

a. P erforms all assigned duties relative to the monthly closing process. Reconciles all assigned general ledger accounts to ensure balances accurately reflect value and are correct. Prepares all assigned monthly financial statements reports and any other assigned reports.

b. Assists with the Accounts Payable function ensuring that all spending limits are adhered to, all discounts are collected, all account coding is accurate, and all bills are paid current.

c. Performs what-if scenarios and profitability analysis on new products and services, branch improvements, etc. as assigned by supervisor.

d. Prepares all required month end and daily journal entries for such items as accruals, funds transfers, investment purchases, and redemptions, as well as depreciation of assets.

e. Reconciles numerous clearing accounts including, but not limited to, ATM, Visa credit and debit card activity, online banking transactional activity, and mobile banking activity. Ensures all member transaction activity is correctly accounted for through the appropriate general ledger account.

f. Assists the VP of Finance and Accounting in the monthly preparations of the ALLL calculations and reports to accurately reflect the position of the account.

g. Performs periodic analysis of the processes in the department and develops methods to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.

h. A ssists with the annual development of the credit union’s budget and quarterly reforecasts. Assists departments with the needed information and budget assumptions. Assists departments with analysis of their reportable variances.

i. Performs additional assigned tasks from the CFO and VP of Finance and Accounting. Assignments may include gathering data for upcoming audits, compiling reports, and organizing paper and electronic files for all team members. Any additional responsibilities will be based on demonstrated skills and abilities.

2. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective communication and coordination with credit union personnel regarding functional responsibilities.

a. Maintains regular contact with other departments to obtain and convey information and/or to correct transactions as they apply to accounting and finance.

b. Assists other accounting and finance department personnel as needed.

c. Keeps management informed of area activities and of any relevant information.

d. Attends and participates in meetings as required.

3. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.

a. Ensures that work area is clean, secure, and well maintained.

b. Completes special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

1. All assigned general ledger account reconcilements are completed by timelines established by the VP of Finance & Accounting. All discrepancies are accounted for and research to correct items has been done as necessary.

2. Assigned monthly closing duties are executed within the timelines established by the VP of Finance & Accounting.

3. Any assigned analysis projects are completed and submitted by the assigned due date. All assumptions and conclusions of such analysis are clearly documented in written narrative form and clearly presented, as requested.

4. All budget related work is completed by the assigned due date. All assumptions and conclusions of such analysis is clearly documented.

5. The ALLL reports and account postings are completed by the established departmental due dates.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business related degree or equivalent experience preferred. CPA certification preferred.

Required Knowledge :
Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet software and all department software applications.

Intermediate knowledge of accounting procedures, reconcilements, and accrual accounting.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and regulations

Experience Required:
Three to five years of previous related experience in an accounting or finance position required.

Skills/Abilities:
Attentive to detail and accurate.

Well organized.

Cooperative and willing to assist others.

Advanced skills in computer applications including spreadsheets and Powerpoint.

Intermediate analytical review skills.
