With Cortland’s Staff Accountant Training Program, recent graduates will have the opportunity to obtain well-rounded, real-world accounting experience. With job rotations, intensive learning, and special project assignments. Staff Accountant Trainees can build a solid knowledge base in 1 year, and use those skills to take their careers to the next level. Based in Atlanta, GA, this position reports to the Accounting Manager and will be responsible for ensuring proper efficiencies applicable in Property Accounting, Corporate Accounting, and Construction Accounting through rotational training and role immersion. This position will support and work with all levels of associates throughout Cortland Partners, ensuring their accounting needs are met to support Cortland’s investors, associates, and partners.

The Real Work

• Create monthly financial reports for properties
• Create and post monthly journal entries and accruals
• Review and calculate year-end adjusting entries
• Post bi-weekly payroll entries for properties
• Post monthly debt service payments for properties
• Assist Regional Managers with income and expense re-classes as needed
• Review bank reconciliations and assist with research items
• Generate and provide weekly cash balance summaries
• Reconcile loan activity on a quarterly basis
• Assist with year-end tax audits
• Assist Regional Managers and properties with accounting inquiries

Required Knowledge and Experience

• Recent graduate of a four-year degree program from a college or university located in the Midwest
• Organizational, quantitative, and problem-solving skills
• High attention to detail
• Solid understanding of basic accounting rules
• Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Ability to approach problems both logically and creatively
• Ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to perform multiple assignments without immediate supervision
• Preferably two to four years of experience in real estate accounting
