Overview:

This role is a key contributor for Math Teachers Press ensuring timely and accurate financial information for the company. The Staff Accountant will perform a variety of general accounting duties and assist in the implementation and improvement of operational and accounting procedures including managing inventory.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the month, quarter, and year-end close procedures, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations and analysis of results and cost accounting reports.
  • Proactively identify issues and areas of improvement within the close process and implement process improvements.
  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, and document business transactions.
  • Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.
  • Perform accounts receivable duties such as generating purchase orders, client invoices and ensuring proper application of customer receipts. Perform weekly collections of past due accounts and provide progress reports.
  • Enters in new inventory, tracks inventory, and orders inventory to fulfill orders.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and monthly account reconciliations.
  • Perform accounts payable duties such as validating all invoices and employee expense reports for payment, ensuring that expenditures are charged to appropriate accounts, processing year end 1099 forms and year end reconciliations, and filing/paying monthly and quarterly sales tax returns (multi-state).
  • Processes payroll, complete commission calculations, and administer employee rewards and benefits along with associated accounting activities.
  • Prepare and review budget for revenue and expenses.
  • Maintains annual corporate accounting calendar and month end schedule.
  • Interacts with internal and external auditors in completing audits.
  • Recommend, develop and maintains database and various spreadsheets used to track expenses and accounting metrics. Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • 5 years of accounting experience in staff accountant or related role
  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting or related field
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including

generally accepted Accounting Principles.

  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.

Required Technology Skills:

  • Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience financial and accounting software, Account Edge preferred
