Staff Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs the necessary tasks to assist the Accounting Department personnel in completing the month-end and year-end tasks timely and accurately.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Prepares month-end journal entries and enters data into accounting software program timely.

Responsible for reviewing each assigned location financial statements monthly and for reviewing the financials with the Regional Directors of Operations and Administrators/Executive Directors on a timely basis.

Prepares final adjustments and generates final financial reports ensuring timely monthly accounting closure.

Answers the field operations and field locations questions regarding general ledger entries upon request.

Performs VISA reconciliation for assigned locations timely before PRELIMS are generated.

Responsible for monthly account reconciliation including the preparation and analysis of the detailed information ensuring accuracy.

Responsible for accurate and timely Bank Reconciliations monthly.

Responsible for the preparation of annual audit work-papers for assigned locations ensuring all reconciliations tie to work-papers for annual audit

Attend in-service and department meetings as scheduled.

Supports a dignified and caring atmosphere with Central Support staff and field staff. All information obtained in the field, or at Central Support, is kept strictly confidential.

Protects privacy and confidentiality of company business and employees information.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or an Accounting degree or four or more years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Proven ability to understand and follow acceptable accounting steps and company policies and procedures. Strong organizational and communication skills including working with field representatives. Solid experience with accounting systems, advanced Word and Excel programs.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or an Accounting degree or four years general accounting experience or similar work setting experience. Able to read and comprehend laws and regulations and work with multi-site locations. Five years of financial statement review experience. Accounting experience in a health care industry setting an asset.
