**DESCRIPTION: **

The Senior Technical Engineer, Telecommunications is responsible for supporting the specific telecommunications requirements for CBS Properties worldwide with an emphasis on special events telecom project management (News, Sports, and Entertainment). The Senior Technical Engineer aids in the formulation, recommendation, interpretation and implementation of corporate-wide telecommunications systems, procedures, and policies as they relate to the overall mission of the CBS IS&T Organization.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages, communicates, organizes and consults on all facets of telecommunications procedures both national and international to ensure project completion.

Provisions new services/technologies, providing cost effective telecommunications alternatives to CBS clients.

  • Partners with CBS clients to determine the best telecommunications equipment/service(s) and/or solution(s) to meet their needs.
  • Responsible for the administration of CBS Telecommunications operations, including the day-to-day support and maintenance of New York Cisco CUCM, Verizon Centrex, Avaya CS1000 PBX and UCCaaS hosted telephone system. Responsible for conferring and advising on procedures, technical problems, priorities and methods. Consults with and advises other departments on the use of Telecommunications technologies, adherence to policies and procedures, resolution of technical problems and ensure efficient workflow.
  • Prepares activity and progress reports as required.
  • Oversee the day to day and project efforts of four union telecommunications/PBX technicians.
  • Responsible for the scheduling of installations and maintenance of telephone systems for multiple locations nationwide.
  • Manages telecommunications/Special Events billing, trouble reporting and follow through to resolution.
  • Develops Request for Information (RFI), reviews Request for Proposals (RFP) and makes recommendations to management on vendors.
  • Provides ongoing support of the CBS voice communications network. This includes local/long distance, virtual networking, voice networking conversions, T1, PRI, BRI, DSL, Internet Bandwidth, data circuits and voice/data infrastructure provisioning and liaison with data networking and other CBS IS&T areas.
  • Provides telecommunications management to the CBS News, Sports, and Entertainment Divisions for special events including Superbowl, NCAA Final Four, AFC Championship, Republican and Democratic Conventions, New Hampshire Primary and Iowa Caucus. This involves conducting client’s needs assessment, analysis and selection of vendor(s) to provide telecom/data services and infrastructure to support the event. Planning and managing the installation of voice and data circuits and voice/data network equipment while maintaining tight budgetary controls and billing management.
  • Performs network optimization and cost reduction studies company-wide. This includes local/long distance calling, directory assistance, carrier selection, vendor contract analysis and telecom circuit increase/reduction studies.
  • Reviews and provides technology solutions to client by utilizing information gained from vendor meetings and involvement in industry committees, user groups, FOCUS groups and technology seminars.
  • Travels when necessary throughout the United States. Large Special Event support averages two or more weeks on the road including weekends and some Holidays.

**QUALIFICATIONS: **

Required:

  • Five to ten (5-10) years telecommunications experience.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate, organize and manage all facets of telecommunications procedures.
  • Specific knowledge of Cisco UC/CUCM telephony, Avaya (including Nortel). Working knowledge of telecommunications networks, including SIP Trunks and structured cabling systems.
  • Ability to work well with all levels of management/personnel. Strong Customer Service skills and flexibility to work in an environment of shifting priorities
  • Builds and preserves relationships with clients.
  • Can work well under pressure situations and can recommend and apply the appropriate telecommunications technology solution for a given situation.
  • Hands on experience in all areas of telecommunications and telecom vendor assessment/management.
  • Working knowledge VoIP and data applications/networking.
  • Excellent project management skills/experience.
  • Ability to work independently and professionally in high pressure/visibility situations.
  • Full computer literacy(Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Undergraduate degree preferred or equivalent work experience.
