Sr Systems Development Engineer

Amazon.com is looking for experienced Systems Engineers to ensure that our infrastructure is designed and implemented to the high standards required to maintain and enhance customer trust. You will participate in the design, build and deployment of security-focused infrastructure as well as provide consultation, architectural review, risk analysis, vulnerability testing and security reviews of many elements of Amazon’s systems. This position will progress your career as a Systems Engineer as well as provide the opportunity to develop security-related skills leading to a Security Engineer position.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

Managing Information Security related servers and systems Infrastructure
Troubleshooting and resolving problems with production systems
Analyzing and improving availability, efficiency, capacity, scalability, security and performance of Information Security systems
Evaluating and recommending new and emerging systems and technologies
Developing and maintaining operations tools
Ownership of many production components
Monitoring of production server systems, including designing and implementing automated methods to monitor those systems
Developing documentation for production systems
Participating in on-call incident response
Mentoring junior members of the team

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems, or equivalent
Expert knowledge of Unix/Linux
Excellent knowledge of server hardware troubleshooting
Strong scripting skills in multiple common languages (e.g., Perl, Python, Ruby, shell scripting)
Knowledge of systems and network related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, SSH, SMTP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, and routing protocols including BGP)
At least 5 years of experience in a systems engineering, systems administration or network engineering role
Experience in deploying and supporting web and/or two-tier applications in a 24×7 production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional experience in a systems engineering / administration role
Experience in deploying and supporting database management systems (e.g. MySQL, Oracle)
Experience in deploying and supporting web and/or two-tier applications in a 24×7 production environment.
Experience with systems engineering implementation of cloud computing services
Experience with service-oriented architecture and web services security
Experience involved (in a development, QA testing, or security role) with development team(s) that delivered commercial software or software-based services
Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills
