Job Description:
Client is looking for a Senior Oracle DBA to be responsible for designing, implementing and supporting Client’s database environments in multiple hosted data centers.

This role is ideal for an independent, fast learning, and motivated individual who wishes to use their knowledge and mastery of database administration to provide technical thought leadership for the database environments and is accountable to help define, maintain, communicate and implement standards consistent with established architecture and strategy.

Day to day responsibilities:
Ensure stable and robust operation of Oracle databases in production and non-production environments

Ensure proper backup procedures are in place and perform DB recoveries as needed

Ensure all database aspects, such as disk space, CPU resource consumption, and DB session limits are monitored and that notifications are generated for all issues

Respond to notifications and perform troubleshooting and issue resolution for the Oracle databases

Participate in production support activities and expected to have the technical knowledge and capability to troubleshoot and handle all issues that may arise.

Proactively put procedures in place to prevent and reduce the severity of outages.

Maintain database security and standards to meet the company’s security policies and certifications

Collaborate with managed hosting provider to specify and implement best practices for database hosting and operation

Work with our managed hosting provider to spec out and provision new servers and hosting infrastructure as needed

Create databases, schemas, and required objects

Create users and assign permissions as needed

Participate in logical/physical database design

Assist with database upgrades and migrations

Assist with data migration and cleanup

Participate in the planning, testing, and execution of Disaster Recovery (DR) initiatives

Analyze system performance, modifying parameters to improve throughput and effectively utilize system resources. Providing recommendation to resolve future performance needs.

Participate and lead capacity planning and high availability design

Help define standard engineering designs, templates, processes, and procedures for implementing new database-driven projects

Participate in design reviews and ensure that all solutions are aligned to policies and pre-defined architectural specifications

Establish and maintain strong collaborative relationships with internal and external strategic partners

Coordinate activities with vendors as required

Develop and maintain installation, configuration, maintenance procedures and documentation

Work collaboratively with application developers to optimize database usage

Provide support to software engineering team with development of stored procedures/triggers/functions

Develop policies, procedures, and training plans for database system administration

Technical Qualifications:
Bachelor degree or equivalent IT work experience

At least 5+years of in-depth administration/development experience with Oracle specifically in

Oracle Enterprise Edition (currently on 12c)

Oracle ASM, Oracle RAC (preferred)

Recovery Manager (RMAN)

Oracle Dataguard

Oracle Datapump

Oracle Enterprise Grid Control

AWR Reports

Oracle PL/SQL

Oracle SQL Loader

Oracle Streams or GoldenGate replication software

General knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN, DAS and NAS

Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL or Teradata preferred

Knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems

Unix command line usage and shell scripting

Experience with high availability and multi-site environments strongly preferred

Experience working in a 24×7 high transaction volume environment

Experience implementing server security for PCI, SAS70 or equivalent certifications

General Qualifications:
Ability to work effectively under pressure

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Good technical diagnostic expertise including problem investigation, reproduction, and resolution skills

Ability to work under pressure

Ability to work efficiently on multiple simultaneous projects

Ability to balance longer term project work with ongoing support responsibilities

Ability to acquire new skills efficiently and thrives in a collaborative team environment

Ability to blend discipline (area of expertise) with a business perspective. Able to focus on business issues and interpret impact on business processes.
