Sr. Database Engineer

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide 24x7x365 operational, and related infrastructure and administration services for mission-critical databases in a fast-paced environment for brokerage, banking, and related financial and other business/enterprise applications. You will report to the Database Engineering Manager within the Data Services Infrastructure Group, and will require strong team interaction with Data Services staff/peers, other engineering and operations group members within the IT organization, as well as with application and business development teams.

• Install, configure, patch, and upgrade database software
• Manage the operations for both development and production databases.
• Create and configure monitors to establish the health of servers and the databases running on them.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot performance issues.
• Submit service requests to software vendors and drive resolution through to completion.
• Work with internal teams to plan and schedule application upgrades.
• Manage day-to-day replication processes.
• Able to perform after-hours, and / or weekend support for key deployments. Willingness to participate in an On Call Rotation.
• Work with internal customers to help determine and deploy the best data store technology and data model strategy for their needs.

REQUIREMENTS

• Inherently curious personality
• Strong technical experience in a large distributed production environment
• Know and understand the tools necessary to manage a large infrastructure in an automated way
• Strong understanding of SQL, relational databases and database fundamentals, including data storage, data modeling, and data access patterns
• Understanding of Linux system administration, including hardware and software troubleshooting, system maintenance, and design
• Excellent communications skills and work attitude (both with technical and non-technical people)
• Experience working in a team environment on multiple simultaneous projects
• Excellent problem solving and the ability to meet deadlines

EDUCATION, TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS

• BS in Computer Science or related field

EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING IS A PLUS

• Lucene-based search engines, such as ElasticSearch
• Data Visualization Tools, Data encryption, Docker, Hadoop, Redis, SAP HANA
