POSITION SUMMARY:

Integrating and processing data into a dimensional data warehouse, formulating KPIs for life insurers and/or direct marketing organizations & enabling performance visibility through business intelligence as a means of achieving competitive advantage for life insurance carriers is mandatory. Establishes standardized performance measures & enabling repeatable dimensional data modeling methods for the delivery of meaningful and impactful business intelligence and data warehousing solutions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

A fundamental & critical component of Gerber Life’s new modernized enterprise architecture is the data warehouse and business intelligence platform. Leading development team resources including ETL and data warehouse developers, data modelers and external vendor resources is needed to assess the current state of the DW/BI environment versus the new in order to determine methods for sustaining and replacing Cognos 10 information assets.

• Instinctively understanding the goal of the data warehouse and business intelligence platform to be simple with fast usability while leading business requirements definition activities and developing the technical architecture, dimensional model and BI application specifications.

• Design and develop extract, transformation and load processes to populate transactional, staging, fact and dimensional tables with required by business intelligence analytics and reporting tools.

• Scorecard development (for measuring life insurance policy transactions against direct marketing target projections). I.e. Cognos Metric Studio

• Conceptual design of OLAP DB needs w/ DBA for cube delivery via transformer or similar tools and processes.

• Report author and query development for delivery of business needs. I.e. report studio, SSRS.

• Delivery of a new solution for introducing real-time dashboard capability into the organization.

• Performing detailed data analysis for designing, documenting and developing well-designed Cognos framework manager packages that delight business users in its intuitive ease of usability & broad range of measurement capability.

• Ensuring the BI environment is optimized to address all business requirements by establishing the framework and enforcing the standards used by all BI application developers.

• Determining and delivering data mining models for statistical marketing data specialists.

• Performing detailed data analysis of the data warehouse for identifying & continuously improving the ability to ensure Data Warehouse and Reporting deliveries meets user demands.

• Applying knowledge about existing corporate data models and business rules, leveraging strong data model experience and practicing an unrelenting commitment to dimensional design while forcing a break away from traditional normalized data design practices.

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS AND MINIMUM EDUCATION LEVEL:

• B.A / B.S. Computer Science and / or

• M.S. Computer Science, Systems Engineering or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

• 7 years of experience as business intelligence developer, solution architect or equivalent.

• 3 years of life insurance industry & 2 years direct marketing experience as business analyst dimensional data modeler.

o Expertise in Cognos business requirements definition, documentation and all aspects of traceability in an enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence environment.

o Expertise in all Cognos studios and working in large scale data warehouse environments.

o Adept in capturing, maintaining and publishing to user Cognos framework manager package detail.

o Proficiency in dimensional data modeling and data warehousing concepts and techniques.

o Proven ability designing and delivering real-time dashboards.

SKILLS:

• Business intelligence application development studios expertise. I.e. Framework Manager, Report Studio, Analysis Studio, Query Studio and Metric Studio, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, etc…

• Comprehensive knowledge of business intelligence tools and product offerings.

• Ability to collaborate on a team with infrastructure, data warehouse and business analyst resources, and clearly communicate solutions to both technical and non-technical team members.

• Analytical background w/ data model capability for meeting (and formulating) KPIs by designing data warehousing and Cognos business intelligence solutions and managing end-end enterprise data management documentation.

• Real-time dashboard solution enablement use of leading edge real-time, web technologies

• Knowledge of the life insurance policy administration and direct marketing KPIs & data management techniques.

• MSSQL DBMS knowledge with proficiency writing queries and knowledge of SQL programming.

• Knowledge of ETL methods, tools and techniques and prior experience with use of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Data Manager, Informatica or other commercial ETL offerings.

• Ability to identify OLAP needs in conjunction with sophisticated business intelligence solutions.

• Strong team player able to form functional work relationships with peers and superiors.

• Superior verbal and written communication skills and comfortable presenting to senior-level executives.

• Ability to prioritize effectively and meet strict deadlines while managing multiple, competing tasks and meeting quality, cost and delivery objectives.

• Project and program management planning and organizational skills.

• Application of best practices for establishing requirements, managing data and determining acceptance.

CERTIFICATIONS:

• Certification is a key differentiator. I.e. Cognos, Microsoft Bi tools, etc…

• Data Warehousing, DBMS or ETL certification is highly desirable.

• Dimensional data modeling or Kimball group course completion desired.

• MMSSQL certification is desirable.

• Statistical data modeling certification or course completion is a plus.

• PMP certification, Agile programming and/or SCRUM development methodology proficiency is a plus.
